The GE Personal Security Deluxe Door Alarm provides a simple-to-use, cost-effective security solution to protect you and your family against home invasions thanks to the 120-decibel alarm, loud enough to make a would-be intruder think twice about entering through your door. The system is also extremely easy to use. The deluxe door alarm features a contemporary design with easy access buttons and controls for simple operation. This straightforward concept makes using the GE Personal Security Deluxe Door Alarm intuitive, no matter what your technological skills may be. Perfect for homes, apartments, dorm rooms and offices. The GE Personal Security Deluxe Door Alarm couldn't be any easier to install. No measuring or messing with templates. Simply mount the deluxe door alarm using the provided versatile mounting plate that accommodates temporary or permanent mounting (screws and double-sided tape included). The deluxe door alarm features a four-digit keypad for programming your custom pin, to secure any door in your home. Using the deluxe door alarm is a breeze. You can select instant or delayed alarms with the flip of an easy-access switch. In the 'away' mode, you have 45 seconds to exit your home after you arm the system. When you get back home, simply open the door and deactivate the alarm within 30 seconds by entering your custom four-digit code. The 30-second delay helps to eliminate false triggering of the alarm. When you're home, simply select 'Home' mode for an instant alarm. With a 120-decibel siren, the GE Personal Security Deluxe Door Alarm is loud enough to alert you or your neighbors of a possible break-in. The siren is sure to scare any intruder, and will give you plenty of warning to alert the authorities and get your family to safety. When not in 'alarm' mode, all the alarms in the Alarm Kit offer a chime setting that alerts each time a door is opened. This is a great safety feature if you have small children that may make their way outside unsupervised. Next, check that the batteries are fresh using the battery test switch or low battery indicator. It's that easy! There's no wiring involved, so the kit is simple for anyone to install. Perfect for homes, apartments, dorm rooms and offices.

Great product....but make sure it can't be removed easily!..
Works good easy install..use it as a apartment door alarm/sensor..Suggest customizing the way it is secured..so it would take a few minutes to remove...

Disapointed, it's only a loud cricket.
Initially I was sold on the keypad feature, so that it could not be disarmed by a child who wants to run outside. Also a lot of reviews said it's loud. I found that is NOT the case from a distance. I needed a loud alarm to notify me at least one story away, however, upon the initial test I consulted the 3 older females in the home about what they heard downstairs. All of them failed to immediately recognize the sound as an alarm. One comment was: "it's a cricket" another comment was "I thought SHE was making a noise with her mouth.I will admit that holding the unit in my hand the noise was irritating, however, covering it with my hand nearly silenced it. The noise would be a great deterrent to an intruder as it it alarmed immediately on opening the door in home mode. In home mode it alarms immediately. In away mode it delays.I was also concerned that the child could still change the mode of the alarm to chime mode on the left side switch even without the keypad code. The instructions seemed to indicate that the features were independent, but I did not verify this to find all ways the system could be exploited.I will return this to get something that makes a child run in fear, rather than step back in annoyance. I need it to be audible two stories away, and annoying one story away. I want forgetting to enter the code when going outside to be so painful that I'll ensure never to do it twice.Other details.Setting the code was simple and easy. Also, some reviews said that it didn't work sometimes. I found that the magnet unit was extremely weak as compared to the door sensors that I have that come with the Nest Protect system (I needed a stand alone alarm for the basement door in addition to this).

Good price for what you get
Very versatile. Has chime or alarm setting. Purchased my first one three years ago and still going strong and same batteries.

Loud. But is it secure?
There's only so much you can expect from a stand-alone wireless door alarm device. Is it loud enough to wake you and your neighborhood. Yes, That it is. and just judging from the intensity and volume, it can be quite the deterrent. The alarm is easy enough to install, though the keypad being only 4 buttons only leaves you with enough combinations, but in the nick of things it should prove to be enough. Its easy enough to set up, the magnet can be screwed or stuck on with included double sided tape. However it also depends on what kind of door jam and border you have. My door jam had a rounded bezel at the edge which meant i had to either stick it on the rounded edge which wasn't very stable, or stick it a little farther away where it was flatter, only problem is then it wouldn't work because the magnet has to be less than half an inch from the edge of the alarm.Aside from those issues, the alarm does what it's supposed to. that is make a very loud noise. It has delayed alarm settings which gives you 45 sec from when you arm it, and enough time to leave the house. and 30 seconds when you re-enter to punch in the code before it goes off. So simple enough interface, works in instant mode as well, for when you're at home. and someone enters, the alarm goes of instantly with no delay. This instant mode can be switched to a door chime mode as well. but it is really loud even in door chime mode, and it does not come with a volume adjuster.Being standalone battery operated, the battery is rated to last a few months before it needs replacement. it will begin flashing when its running low. Also its small form factor allows it to be placed anywhere. I would recommended placing the alarm at an odd place where it would still work when the door is opened, but not be in the usual place where anyone can see or expect it easily. For those who cant afford a security subscription service, this works quite well as a basic deterrence. Within seconds of a break in it will blast a sound around 120db waking anyone in the vicinity, especially if its an apartment building, leaving the intruder no choice but to flee immediately. And that could be the difference.UPDATE: I've used this device for 2 years now, and only replaced the battery once very recently. So take form that what you will.

What you need to know
I ordered this handy little device for my apartment since the landlord does not provide any sort of security system or door chime. With that purpose in mind, here are some notes that will address many questions people are having-I was worried the unit would be too big and look ugly on a door but it is small and reasonably lightweight even with batteries (see pictures)-The unit requires 3 AAA batteries (not included)-There is a screw that needs to be undone to access the batteries, thus an intruder triggering the alarm would have to know the code or quickly smash the thing (hard plastic). Most intruders would probably run-The alarm is loud and close to piercing. No ability to adjust volume which is why it didn't get full 5 stars- There are two switches so four different modes you can be in although some modes do the same thing1. Home/Chime - a short simple chime when the door is opened2. Home/Alarm - No sound when the door is opened and closed, UNLESS you type in a code. Green light flashes and you now know if the door is opened the alarm immediately goes off and won't stop until code is typed in.3.Away/Alarm - No sounds unless you type in the code and red light flashes for 30 seconds while you leave. Once you re-enter a red light flashes for 45 seconds giving you a chance to type in the code or else it will then sound the alarm4. Away/Chime - Short simple charm when the door is openedThis is a simple little unit that provides a cheap alarm system as well as a door chime. Obviously it will not call for help or provide additional protection, but for the simple use of providing noise and a flashing light when an intruder walks in it will get the job done

Unreliable performance
I purchased the set of three.1) Two of the units were easy to install, the third one was not, as the door is recessed. I had to try and find something the thickness of the recess, then stick the unit onto it so it could line up with the activator part. One was installed on the inside of the storm door. Its performance is intermittent. Sometimes it chimes, sometimes it does not. Trying to test to see if the neighbours can hear it from their place, I had to fiddle with it for several minutes before it finally went into alarm mode.2) The distance between the activator piece and the unit needs to be 1/2" or less. This makes the switches (alarm/chime or Away/home) unreachable without triggering the unit's noise. Not very practical.3) There is no volume control. One of the units is on a sliding door off the living room where dogs get let in and out several times throughout the day. Even the chime is loud enough to be irritating enough that I remove the unit in the daytime. Haven't found a solution to that problem as yet.

Excellent alarm system
This is an excellent door/window alarm with very loud volume. Installation was easy. Test it and then hard press both the magnet and alarm unit. There are two issues though:1. Depending on how you mount (right/left to the magnet piece), you will have to open the door/window to slide the side button that faces the magnet. When you open, you may have to suffer from the loud beeps2. The 4 beeps when activating the alram is quite loud.

The Only smart alarm with CODEs to de-active the Siren
This is the best smart alarm than any other easy/cheap alarms. Once set up the alarm, I know I can sleep well. Yes, the alarm is loud. The "away" function with 30 seconds delay is also another WIN function.

Works for me.
Easy to install. Sensor can be installed on either side of the door alarm. The self-adhesive stickers are located separately inside the package alone with the instruction manual. The alarm can be "unclipped" from the mounting bracket to replace the batteries.
