Focus on what this is...
Ratchet and Clank All 4 One is not like the Ratchet and Clank Future Trilogy. It does not have the same upgrade weapon trees. It doesn't have a very in-depth story. Hell, you can't even control the camera. So why 5 stars? Because I knew that it wasn't going to be like previous Ratchet and Clank games. What endears me to this game more is that--despite its differences--it allows me to play with my daughter (and others) at the same time. The co-operative aspects of the game occasionally poses some challenges so in addition to simply PLAYING with someone else, I'm INTERACTING with them. I get a great deal of satifaction strategizing with my 9-year old daughter how to go about beating the next big boss fight and frantically coordinating our weapon selection to maximize our damage simultaneously. Or there is the crazy chaos of trying to deal with multiple enemies at the same time and finding the best way to beat the baddies. And then there's the puzzles which require teamwork.Insomniac put a great deal of thought into what makes a good co-operative game. Some levels can't be beat without working as a team. Whether it be launching another player high into the area to hit a switch so the player below can activate another one, swingshoting across vast chasms in tandem, or selecting weapons to provide systemic destruction, Insomniac finds many ways for co-operative play to be challenging and fun simultaneously. It's not like the most recent Super Mario Bros. on the Wii where 4 players are chaotically moving across a level with the basics of co-operative play barely working at best.Sure, the weapon upgrades are not as deep (3 per weapon - purchasable by bolts). Sure, the graphics take a hit. And sure, the story doesn't flow like the Future titles. But what the game does quite well is to keep things moving along and with 4 players on the screen at once, it manages to do so without taking a framerate hit with multiple-colored bolts flying across the screen to different players as rewards. If there was an upgrade weapon tree like Future, I could only imagine the groans as 4 players are trying to simultaneously upgrade their weapons for about 10 minutes as they weigh their choices. If the story were as deep as Future, it would detract from getting players back into the action. Also, the diverse array of comical and creative weaponry is still there. You still get a pistol as your starting weapon. Add to that, though, the Blitzer which act as charged punching gloves. Or the Thunder Smack which creates lightning storms above your enemies. Or maybe you'd like to change your enemies into farm animals...or freeze them...or paralyze them with the whip of the Arc Lasher. Or you can listen to the smack-talk of Mr. Zurkon who does not need "bolts...his currency is pain." The hilarity is still there. Add to that the fact that when your teammates use the same weapons, some of the effects are greatly enhanced dealing extra damage. Some enemies require the systemic weapon choices to be defeated which, again, requires coordination/teamwork. It's quite cleverly done. Can you play it as a single player? Of course you can - and that's where you will likely be disappointed because this is NOT like previous Ratchet & Clank titles. You will still suffer the same limitations as a single player and that's why you will be disappointed. This game was meant to be enjoyed as a multi-player experience, plain and simple. I love the fact that Insomniac teams our dynamic duo with two people they DON'T particularly like to work with: Qwark and Nefarious. And yes, Nefarious still occasionally malfunctions and broadcasts melodramatic soap operas through his mouth. :)So if you're looking for a Future-like title, you will be sorely disappointed. I understand that completely. But this game wasn't made with that in mind.

Frustrating!
Like others, I love Ratchet & Clank. The games in the past have been fantastic, humorous, creative, enjoyable....pick some other good words to throw in here. All 4 One is probably the most frustrating game I have ever played. To make it worse, since I'm often away from home for an extended time (work), I bought two copies so I could play online with my son.The good:-As with the other R&C games, the weapons are creative. The bad:-Zero story (well, there sort of is one, but it's worthless)-This is NOT drop-in/drop-out game play. Players can drop-out any time they want, sure. But to JOIN a game in progress, the level needs to be reset to the most recent checkpoint (there are not nearly enough checkpoints). To make this even MORE frustrating, the game is supposed to give the host the option of allowing the reset so the player can join, or cancel so they have to wait until the next checkpoint. This is done by a box that pops up with X=Allow Join; O=Make Them Wait. Unfortunately, X is the jump button, and you are doing a LOT of jumping, especially during the boss battles. Are you mere SECONDS from beating the boss that you have been fighting for the past 20 minutes? Well, you better hope nobody tries to join while you're jumping because you're going to have to start ALLLLLLL the way at the beginning.-The boss battles are entirely too lengthy and difficult. Why are they difficult? The length between checkpoints is one thing. Also.....keep reading.-Weapons have the ability to overload. This happens when two or more people shoot the same weapon at the same enemy. When shooting the pistol, for example, the shooting gets faster and faster, until finally...BOOM! And it does more damage. Unfortunately, the overload effect also puts the game into slow motion for a second (intentionally). I suppose this is intended to be a neat game play effect, but it usually happens when you are trying to jump or dodge some enemy/boss attack. In turn, the slow motion will 8/10 times make you screw up your timing or not register your key press, resulting in your death. What happens when everyone dies? Go back to the last checkpoint.-There are quite a few spots where you need to defeat a LOT of enemies before proceeding. It's almost like a boss battle that's comprised of wave after wave after wave of smaller enemies. With very little chance to replenish your ammo. With no check points. Yes, I know I mentioned all of this before, but it bears repeating. It makes me want cringe just thinking about it.This is the only game I can remember that has actually made me scream out loud in frustration. Save your money and go download the excellent Dungeon Defenders instead. We have basically given up on R&C and have been playing that game which, by the way, is 1/4 the price.

Good Family Game
Fun family game. Easy enough for a 6 year old, but fun enough for adults too. All 4 people can play on the same screen (no split screen).Likes: 1-4 players at a time.Easy for the youngest, but fun enough for older people too.Funny cutscenesNothing to worry about for younger kids, no bad words, etc.Moves along fast enough to maintain interest.Hard to fail, you really dont die or ever have to start over.Funny banter.Dislikes:Cant choose more than one of the same person. All 4 people have to be someone different, and no one wants to be Clank because hes very small and hard to see.Game doesn't wait on other players. If one player runs ahead, the slow people get left behind and the game really caters too much to the lead person on the screen. Lead person can leave others in the dust, causing them to die or miss loot at times.Cant share money. The kids like to rush through the game, and they dont have enough money to upgrade as a result. Wish you could share money so everyone ccan upgrade weapons at the same time.
