The Kaiser’s Army In Color: Uniforms of the Imperial German Army as Illustrated by Carl Becker 1890-1910 (Schiffer Military History)

Prussian blue
Awesome book with some of the most amazing illustrations of uniforms from a bygone era, when armies proudly displayed their colors and peculiarities. And in the case of Germany, these characteristics going overboard, almost Napoleonic overboard. Each state, each arm and each unit (and sometimes each sub-unit) had their own uniforms, so be prepared to be amazed with a kaleidoscope of Germanic diversity before the advent of Feldgrau. A must to anybody interested in the Prussian military and that of their neighbors

Beautifully done uniform prints
I was not familiar with this artist prior to this volume, so thanks are in order to Schiffer Publishing for making this possible. In my opinion, it would be hard to improve upon the efforts of the artist in portraying a wide variety of uniforms of the Imperial German Army in it's heyday, prior to the cataclysm of World War I, and the army's dissolution. Becker, in my mind, is at least equal, if not superior, to the revered Richard Knotel. If you have any interest at all in "Der Alte Heer", you need to own this book.

Imperial German Army 1890-1910
This book brings to light for the first time, 104 military paintings of Carl Becker. An extremely talented painter of the Imperial German Army. The paintings cover the well rendered uniforms of a large cross section of the units that were found within the Army. The paintings of the colorful mounted units stand out and are well represented. The paintings were apparently private commissions, that until they were rediscovered in 1950 were unknown to the outside world. The plates are how found within the Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection, located at Brown University.. This book is a well merited attempt to bring such museum treasures, as the plates, to the attention of the outside world,Both artistically and technically correct, the book should appeal to military historians, collectors, re-enactors, and anyone who appreciates military art. If there is a failing, the plates stand alone, and each plate merits a narrative page on the uniform, the unit it represents, and its place within the Imperial Army
