Cry, The Beloved Country

This is one of the most powerful stories I have ever come across. The characters will stay with me for a long time. Cry, the Beloved Country reveals many complex facets of complex issues and humanity's struggle to endure in a world of strife. Yet it offers hope. That is no small achievement.

Good book, a classic. Got it just to try and understand some of the history of South Africa.

A beautifully written story about how two fathers lives are brought together by a tragedy. There is humanity and a great compassion throughout their story. Never has the English language been written with such gentility and elegance.

Rereading a classic that I first read when I was in high school.

This is an amazing book, and well deserves to be a classic. It moved me on all levels, emotional and intellectual. It is as powerful today as the day that it was written. I read this in preparation for a trip to South Africa. Now, I need to read more about this country's more recent history.

The book is a collectors item and really well preserved. It will make a great addition to my collection. Thank you for the honest sellers out there - the book is exactly as described.

I first read this book about 60 years ago , and it moved me then and now. The language is so lyrical and descriptions of the landscape as well as the city resonate with me. Recommended
