An Amazing Fantasy Series!
This series is so good and I cannot wait for more! If you haven't read Reign the Earth yet and you like YA fantasy, you really should pick it up. The world is so well developed and the characters are realistic and flawed and damaged and hopeful and loyal and I just love these books so much. This one was slightly less intense than the first but no less interesting or important. A lot of people I've talked to like this one even more but I think the first is still my favorite. Overall, it was a fast paced book with strong and interesting characters. The elemental magic is really well done and fun to learn about and I was a big fan of the romance in this one. It's just a really great fantasy series that has a lot going on and doesn't sugar-coat or write down to teens. These characters face a lot of challenges and run into a lot of gray areas in terms of good vs bad, right vs wrong and it was really interesting to watch how they worked it out. Or didn't. It's pretty fast-paced and easy to get through but also thought-provoking and I really can't wait to read more from this series. If you like epic fantasy or elemental magic or fantasy with romance, check out this series!

Fantastic sequel
I'm a huge AC Gaughen fan, and still Imprison the Sky surpassed my expectations. I was initially a little sad to leave Shalia's perspective, but I was immediately drawn in to Aspasia's story and was thrilled with Kairos's appearance and how this book tied everything together. Gaughen is a master at drawing complex characters, and watching Aspasia wrestle with her physical and emotional scars as she searched for freedom in a broken world was so compelling. This is a rare case of the sequel being even more amazing than the first, and I can't wait to see what she does with books three and four.

Thank you
Book itself was amazing. 5 star read. However, two pages were completely black. Contacted Amazon and they are sending a new one and allowing me a free return of this one, so I’d also like to highlight Amazon’s easy and quick customer service!

Powerful
I love this second, I think even more than the first one. It was so powerful and raw, full of wonderful emotions, some frustration and sadness but equally great.

Strong Heroine and Fascinating Story World
The most difficult part of Imprison the Sky for me was the fact that Aspasia captured, transported, and sold slaves. I know she herself was also a slave and that she was tortured by her actions. I know she refused to take women or children as slaves. But I still had a really hard time with that part of her character.(In a weird way, that made me more deeply examine my feelings about some historical heroes who owned slaves, too. I found it wasn’t easy to dismiss the slave-capturing part of Aspasia’s personality, and yet I’d kind of dismissed that part of history for some of the historical figures whom I’d admired. So I think it was a good thing for me to think through, because that’s not something that should be dismissed.)I think Kairos might be my favorite part of Imprison the Sky. I was so excited to see him come on scene. He’d been one of my favorite characters from Reign the Earth. If you’ve read and remember the first book in the Elementae series, you’ll already know he’s Shalia’s brother. He made a great partner to Aspasia, someone to temper her emotional flares and ground her without trying to control her.I didn’t hate Aspasia, either. I liked that she was so protective of her crew. The way she used her power to protect them was awesome. I liked that she tried to save as many people as she thought she could. On the whole, I’m glad I read it. I enjoyed a lot of things about the book, and especially loved the relationships between the crew members and the slight sky pirate feel it had. Imprison the Sky was definitely a fun read.Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Intriguing sequel with more depth than a typical YA fantasy
Since it had been so long since I had read Reign the Earth, I was a little worried that I would find it difficult to delve back into this world. I was a bit confused when I started reading because, until Kairos arrives a few chapters in, none of the characters from Reign the Earth make an appearance. Luckily, Imprison the Sky ultimately does a great job of introducing this new cast of characters while also reminding the reader of the events of the first book.Although it took me a while to warm up to her, I grew to love Aspasia just as much as I did Shalia. Aspasia was strong, powerful, and conflicted. Her emotional journey throughout the book was so interesting and I loved that everything felt natural. The romance was sweet, although it progressed a bit quickly toward the end. The other characters didn’t stand out quite as much to me but they were still pretty well developed!I also loved how the concept of family was dealt with in Imprison the Sky. The plot lagged in a few places in the middle but was still interesting enough that I never wanted to put the book down. However, I absolutely flew through the last third, I couldn’t wait to see what happened next.Imprison the Sky was an interesting book with a lot more depth than your typical YA fantasy. I’m definitely looking forward to the next installment in this series!*Disclaimer: I received this book for free from the publisher. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Incredible writing and characters
Another fantastic book from A C Gaughen. I loved it as much as the first, which is unusual as sequels never tend to live up to the first book. But once again, this author blew me away with her talented writing and her fantastic characters. She brings them all to life and it all plays out perfectly in your mind when reading it. Can't recommend this series enough.
