Ramana Maharshi and the Path of Self-Knowledge

Illuminating
Mr. Osborne describes in fascinating terms life at the ashram of an Indian saint, Ramana Maharshi. It’s a very interesting account of the various aspects of life there, including stories about the spiritual path and those recollecting conflicts. The best part for me, though, has been the understanding I got of Ramana Maharshi’s teachings. Reading this book has been an illuminating experience, and an introduction to the concepts of self-realization and direct path. Highly recommended.

Transports you back in time
Arthur Osborne is a wonderful story teller and you can easily sense his integrity through the writings. Such a great treasure passed on to us. One night I read the chapter on Sri Ramana Maharishi's samadhi and was completely silenced with the vivid description of that day's event. It left me so calm and relaxed to know that he is still with us despite shedding his physical body. A true master piece for those in search of an authentic book on Advaita (Non-Dualism) and for those on the path of self-inquiry.

A glimpse into another world
The writing isn't noteworthy but the content is fascinating. R.M. was exceedingly rare in that his awakening was sudden and true, as shown by the rest of his life's course. In our culture he would have been institutionalized, given shock or medicated into a stupor. This material provides a glimpse into timeless traditions of India.

Ojo. Título engañoso
Ojo!

This is not a book it's Ramana himself
Arthur Osborn is not in the book, onky Ramana Maharishi in every word. One of my friend HC Mahajan asked me to suggest him a book, I pointed this and see his response after 1 week."Never a reading has been so rewarding as The Mind of Ramana Maharshi .As I got into the flow and the rhythm of the book, I embarked on a journey of discovery of the self and the journey continues even after the book is finishedRamana is with me and will always remain to empower me to crush the ego and reach the self."

Fascinating account of Ashram life
This is a fascinating account of life in an Ashram - like no other account I have read. It is so honest. Usually - and for understandable reasons - accounts of life in an Ashram or life with a Guru are sanitised. This is an amazing account of what it really was like. The good, bad and ugly parts are all there, written in a fascinating way. Even where some accounts are different to the record the author has contained the account but added information about alternative records, in a way that is helpful and adds rather than detracts from the reading. It is inspiring to read the true life-time account of a great servant and devotee of Ramana as he experienced all the up and downs of Ashram life, and the way that his Guru trained him, sometimes using him to teach others, and sometimes other to teach him. This is not the usual hagiography about how the Guru was wonderful, life was wonderful, they were wonderful. By giving it to us fully, with all the strangeness, oddities, frustrations and conflicts as well as all the wonderful parts we get a true insight into how a close disciple's life with his Guru really was. This account is a rare treasure for those who want to gain an insight into how it really might have been.
