Performance Tool W1159 5-Piece Interchangeable Jaw Snap Ring Plier Set, Straight, 45 degree & 90 Degree

Tool was ok. A little flimsy on the lock that holds the tool in place but otherwise it worked just fine!

Needed these for snap ring removal/installation during CV axle replacement .

The tool works well for the job at hand. The design is a little disappointing. When changing heads, the risk of losing a part from the tool is high.

Of course, nobody expects premium quality at this price point, and these were intended for a single use job. BUT Here is the rub!! The TIPS of the pliers are an insanely fat diameter and wouldn't come close to fitting 2 separate sets of snap-rings (old or new). After 45min of filing the rounded tips to a smaller diameter these kinda, sorta worked. While attaching the snap-rings, the pliers tip would partially separate from the handles, or the spring-post center piece would fall out in the middle of using, detaching the tips completely. These are already in the trash, and if I ever need this type tool in the future, I'll head to a hardware store!! Lesson learned. We can only pray that everything in the chinese military is made to these same 'precision' standards.

I went for the cheaper version and now wish I'd ordered higher quality. The tip sizes on the 4 included tip assemblies were too large for the holes in my Honda mower's snap rings. I had to use my bench grinder to modify the tips on the pliers so they would fit the snap rings. Also, the OEM Honda snap rings are very heavy duty so when I finally was able to make the tips fit the snap ring holes, the tip assembly tried to come apart. If I had it to do over, I'd buy a higher quality snap ring removal tool.

For $7 USD, you get a spring loaded handle assembly with two sets of pegs cleverly welded both in front of and behind the axis grommet, so depending on which sets of pegs you mount the jaws, it will work to pull wider the external snap ring or close smaller the inner snap ring. You get two sets of straight jaws (both the same size), one set of 45° angle jaws, and one set of 90° right angle jaws. Each pair is attached by an axis grommet.The jaws pivot in line with the handle axis by threading a captive pin through both the handle grommet and the grommet on the currently in-use pair of jaws. The captive pin has a spring to maintain tension so the jaws don't fall off the handle's pegs, but that spring is nowhere near strong enough to keep the jaws from wiggling, and in one case, the toggle at the end of the captive pin loosened itself and the jaws fell off.Oh, well. You get what you pay for. As a part-time tinkerer, it's fine, but I would avoid this if I was a serious hobbyist.
