Upcycle 55 Gallon Black Rain Barrel

This is a great rain barrel! Easy to set up, easy to use, easy to clean, etc. The key is the removable top. The entire top screws on and off effortlessly. This makes it easy to check or access the water from the top. It also makes it easy to clean, although you shouldn't have to often because incoming water is strained by a fine wire mesh. The drain spigot sets about 4-6 inches from the bottom so sediment doesn't interfere with drainage. Both overflow and drain spigots are threaded for common garden hose hookup. I built a stand about 16" tall so I could easily fill a water bucket. I just don't see how you could have a more functional rain barrel.

I like this plastic rain barrel more than the other, less expensive, one that I have. The other one does have a brass faucet but it leaks sometimes, and manually filling that barrel (as opposed to having it only filled via the downspout) is inconvenient. On the other hand this Upcycle rain barrel has plastic outlets which work well and have not leaked. It also has a very nice completely removable top, and that top allows for simultaneously receiving a downspout and manually filling. The whole barrel seems very well designed and sturdily made.

My Barrel was lost in transit, posted as delivered. They dealt with the issue and sent me a replacement at no charge. It’s a really high quality item and I’m excited to get it hooked up and collecting water!

These barrels are fantastic! I have included a photo of the top since there are a lot of questions regarding this. About two hours after this photo we had a heavy rain and the barrel filled in 15 minutes. The only criticism is that the overflow valve is not big enough to effectively drain during a heavy downpour. However, I would recommend this to anyone! It is clearly a quality product!**UPDATE** I wanted to correct my comment regarding the overflow valve. Actually my overflow hose was kinked and preventing the overflow from working properly. I replaced the hose and the overflow works great, even in fairly heavy rain conditions.

I've been very pleased with this rain barrel. I especially like the screw-on top that makes it very easy to clean any debris that comes through the rain gutters. The only disappointment was the mosquito netting was cut a little short on one side of the top but I was able to rearrange and reattach. It's amazing how quickly it fills up from a single rain event and allows me to use all this water for my potted plants during dry periods without paying high city water prices.

I bought 2 to use in my greenhouse. They smelled horrible and have a greasy residue which is very hard to remove. I got approval to return them but shipping cost is on me. I like the barrels but not the stench.

Works great, thought full additions like a lid with holes for rainwater collection and a mesh screen to keep the bugs out. Ports to connect pipes. I always install ball valves in rain barrels so I drilled out the original, no problem there. Will probably buy another one.
