Pegasus Hobbies Dragonslayer: Vermithrax Dragon model kitI have not built this kit as yet, so this is an out-of-the-box review.I have been an avid model builder for over half a century. I have seen many kits both really good and really bad.Pegasus kits are works of art. The few kits I have seen from this company have been extraordinary. This kit of the Vermithrax Dragon from Dragonslayer is no exception.The Dragon and the figure are molded in vinyl and the base is a sturdy vacuform plastic. The molding is (mostly) clean and the fit is very good. There will be some fill-and-match work on the arms/wings and where the wings meet the body but it looks to be minimal. The spines along the backbone have a bit of `flash' and will need careful cleaning up. The detail and skin texture are beautiful.The pose is well done and conveys the threat the Dragon emanates. The pose is a bit different than the box art but I like the model's pose better. The little figure of the dragonslayer is as well done as the dragon. (I will probably replace the long spear with metal rod rather than the vinyl it is molded in.)I greatly look forward to building and painting this beautiful kit.

The Dragonslayer kit is awesome. The hardest part about building it is explaining the subject. Most people I talk to have never seen Dragonslayer, or have any idea what it's all about. Nevertheless, this is another great kit of a cool subject by the folks at Pegasus. Very much like the Relic kit, with great detail in the figures. Parts are solid, and fit fairly well, although some of the seams are a little tougher to hide than on the Relic critter. But then, this is a much more complex subject.The base is a little light and thin, but I plan on backing it with insulating foam to give it a heavier, more solid feel.The galen figure looks good, too. His spear isn't quite right, but I'm not about to nit-pick something that irrelevant.I'd highly recommend this kit. And purchasing through Amazon was easy and painless as usual. I sincerely hope that the folks at Pegasus can keep popping out cool stuff like this. I'll buy it all!

Dragon slayer is one of my favorite movies, and when I saw this kit, I had to have it.I saw when I opened it that the kit was vinyl, I immediately looked up tips on dealing with vinyl kits. I washed and scrubbed it several times with warm, soapy water to remove any separation agents.Construction went well with epoxy used for attatchment and filling. A coat of flat black automotive primer was used a a base coat, the rest was dry brushed. It looked terrific. CUT To...two years later.I had the model displayed in a glass front cabinet. I noticed several flat pieces around it, on further examination it was the primer shedding off of it, carrying the drybrushing with it. Several attempts to strip and repaint were unsuccessful, the primer would not adhere. I know of a few people who used the exact same process and achieved excellent results. Maybe my vinyl was just a bad batch? I still have the kit and will try again. But for now, modeler beware!
