Must have for your little one.
This is one of those must have toys. I looked at a few different picnic baskets before buying this. I have had this for awhile now and it has been one of the most used toys in my house. This is also a really sturdy toy- after two years of use it looks brand new.All of the plates, utensils, cups and food are made from plastic, so they're easy to clean. Everything fits neatly inside the basket, which is a big deal for me- I hate having toys without a home. I love that leapfrog also incorporates learning into all of their toys. This toy helps them learn shapes and the plates are like little puzzles- you have to put the right shape food in the correct spot.Another positive is that this isn't one of those really loud obnoxious toys. It does have songs and a learning mode but honestly my daughter doesn't even turn it on.

So many ways to play with this
There are few baby toys that I really have liked so far. This one I love. My daughter is only 6 months. At this age there isn't a lot of real play I can do with her and I honestly get bored. With this toy I sit her up and talk to her like we are having a little picnic. It is easy for me to make up a little conversation and pretend we are sharing the food. She seems very entertained and I am too. She also likes the basket and will soon understand how to open it in addition to pushing the music button. She also loves waving the blanket around in the air and chewing on all the foods (teething). As she gets older we can interact more with this by playing make believe and she can learn shapes. I also love that it all fits in the basket for cleanup and travel. Simple toy to take along but has lots of pieces. Now I want the tea set.

Annoying toy that will probably, tragically, be around a long time
My baby loves this picnic basket. She loves taking everything out of it and putting it back in. She loves opening and closing it. She loves banging the picnic items together. The toys inside the basket are fine, if not unremarkable. They will eventually help her with shapes and colors. The basket itself is not fundamentally flawed; however, the way the basket talks and sings eats at the edges of my soul. That being said, this review is not about how much I like the basket, but how much my baby does, and as mentioned in the first paragraph, she loves it. She does not appear even remotely annoyed by its incessant high-pitched pleas to "press the butterfly button to hear a song." Additionally, I think this basket is a toy that she can grow with - eventually, she will be able to use the picnic pieces as fake food for pretend play.Buy this basket if your baby likes banging things together, and filling and spilling toys. Or buy this basket as a baby shower gift for someone you do not like.

Highly Recommend!
We purchased one of these in 2016 for my granddaughter and she loved it. I ordered another one 6 months later to keep at our house. It’s now 2025 and this toy has survived 5 grandchildren and it’s held upPerfectly. I recommend this from age 2 to 4.

Very enjoyable
This was bought for my two year old son for Christmas. It was 50% off at the time so I thought what the heck and I needed one more gift for him and my 11 month old to share. Way worth the regular price! This has become a favorite and we love it. It is so fun to play pretend and right away my two year old set up the whole picnic set and asked for me to play. My 11 month old enjoys it to and likes to fill it and dump it out again.

A little disappointed at first
First off, we LOVE LeapFrog toys! My daughter has Potsy, Violet, the Learn & Groove Table, the Learn & Groove Drum - and most recently this Shapes and Sharing Picnic Basket. I wholeheartedly give five stars to the other toys! I really should have tried this out in a store first though, or read more reviews, as I am disappointed that it does not share the same interactive features as Potsy (which responds as you drop the pieces into the pot). This basket really doesn't do much at all; the songs seem very short and aren't very engaging. My daughter is almost 14 months old and will play with Potsy the entire time I am making dinner - and has been doing so for four months. But as for the basket, she just pulls everything out, puts the pieces in her mouth, and tosses them aside. I have tried to sit down and play picnic with her to get her interested, but she just doesn't get it. It does seem like a great, durable toy for an older toddler, so I am putting it away for now and am hoping that she will enjoy it when she better understands shapes, simple instructions, and the concept of a picnic. I will update in a few months and am really hoping to add a star or two, since we love the other toys so much.UPDATE 6/26/12:I added a star for overall and fun. I left the basket out in my daughter's room and she will now sit and play with it for 5 or 10 minutes, usually every day. She mostly likes to take out the "food" and try to eat it. She also likes to carry the plates around and make a plate "sandwich" that she likes to chew on. Sometimes she will give me a cup to pretend to drink out of. I think that she will enjoy this more and more as she gets older. Potsy is still her favorite though.UPDATE 4/23/13:I added another star for overall and two for fun. My daughter is now two and plays with this much more now that she is starting to pretend play. I think it is better suited for this age group.UPDATE 10/02/14:My daughter is now 3.5 years old and still plays with this toy every day after she gets up from her nap. A solid choice for ages 2 and up!

Great picnic basket for both girls and boys!
I bought 2 of these first for my nieces little girls, ages 8 months and 2. The 8 month old loves to take the items out of the basket and put them back in. The 2 year old uses it all the time. My 5 year old niece wanted one also, so I purchased another one! The basket itself is a hit. They carry it around a lot. The items inside are all duplicate items. The colors are vibrant and the items are durable and sturdy! The piece de resistance is the red and white checkerboard table cloth, which every picnic needs! Great gift for a child!
