Essential resource for guitarists!
I don't often review products but Troy Nelson's offering on chord progressions prompted me to comment. I love everything about this book. It is so well-organized and thought out, even in the introduction. Mr. Nelson presents a 14 day program with each day divided into six sections: Open-chord strumming, Open-chord arpeggios, Open-chord fingerpicking, Barre chords, Extended chords, and 6/8 meter. He calls for a 90 minute practice period, 15 minutes per section. I enjoyed his program and it definitely moved my guitar expertise and knowledge to the next level.

Good for learning chords and chords transitions.
I bought this book hoping to learn how to create various chord progressions for song writing. While it is great for learning chords and how to apply them to different styles of playing; strumming, finger-picking, etc.., I had trouble understanding the concepts and translating them for my own use.

A great resource for guitarists
The focus of the book is learning 14 chord progressions in a couple of weeks, but it's far more than that. There is a brief but excellent recap (or introduction) to basic chord theory which covers the elements of how chords are constructed and how they relate to scales. This only takes a few pages, but it's very clear and covers all you need to know to complement the actual progressions taught subsequently. The suggested method to complete the course in 14 days requires a lot of time per day, and I'm sure with that it can be done, but for those who want to proceed at a less intense pace, the material can be worked through at whatever speed your schedule allows. Completing this course will help the beginner or intermediate guitarist with little grasp of musical theory not only to have some good progressions under their fingers, but more importantly to understand how they work. I have rarely seen an instructional book that delivers so well what it promises. Many thanks, Mr Nelson!

Great lesson book. Teaches much more than expected.
I got this book on impulse while looking for something to help with a playing rut. Thought a 14-day program would be a good shakeup. I was pleased to see each day’s lesson covered more than just chord changes. The lessons cover arpeggios, finger picking, barre chords, extended chords, tempo and key changes. Each of the lessons is a useful and workable chunk but not too much to tackle. I’ve learned a lot more than I expected and things I did not expect at all, especially about finger picking. Each day’s six-part lesson is supposed to take 90 minutes as planned but I’m only doing half a lesson a day because of lack of time. It’s not a thick book but I’ve learned more than from any other book I’ve used. This book could bump you up to a solid intermediate player if you do the work. I will be getting more of Troy’s books after this.
