Q: How tightly do the clips grip? Do they ever slip?

I use these Suspenders, to hold up my Heavy Leather Blacksmithing Apron. They work great for that! The clips grip tight, and do not come loose, until you unclip them.

Q: How bad to these metal-toothed-clips tear-up the waist-band?

These are very sharp and work well to retain the waist-band. However, they do begin to damage the waist-band material quickly and should not be used with expensive pants. Best used where work clothing is needed and function is most important.
