A few years later, his sinewy jams have proved near universal -- like an underground Zelig, he's fit perfectly everywhere from Rodhad's Dystopian to Ghostly International and Innervisions. Acid Test also allows Recondite the chance to indulge his more outre tendencies and a welcome return it is.

Herr Brunner's Music For Head and Heart
German producer Lorenz Brunner (or Recondite as he would appear to wish tobe known in The Listening World) makes intelligent techno. In its head is seemsto want to steer more towards sonic minimalism but in its heart Herr Brunner justcan’t quite suppress his drive to include attractive and sustaining human detailsin both the rhythmic and melodic content of these ten intriguing inventions. There’s something inherently extraterrestrial in machine made music which cansometimes leave us feeling empty and cold (not that there is anything especiallywrong with a good dose of electronic chills from time to time) but there’s a warmseam running through this album which draws us inwards towards a softer centre.Tempi and dynamics are, on the whole, fairly restrained throughout; nothing that’sexactly going to set a dance floor ablaze (not that you couldn’t wriggle along to it ina slinky kind-of way if the impulse arose!) The rhythmic structures are fluid yet precise;the overall mood cool and neutral. 50 shades of sepia and umber rather than grey.Top track : ‘Ley’ - a simple but beautifully sustained idea with its undulating synthlines fading in and out above, below and around an almost brutal percussive pulse.Close Second : ‘Pass Up’ - a bit frisky, a tad jazzy - kinda late night Nordic Noir.‘Placid’ is a singularly lucid and enjoyable experience.Recommended.

Moody
Moody electronica very enjoyable. I love this album, I listen to this in the same vien as Depeche Modes Violator and enjoy the lack of vocals.
