How to Draft Basic Patterns 4th Edition

it's nice to have this book in my studio. I've made several patterns and do like the fit I'm getting.

easy, understandable, time saving

I feel that not enough information is given on pants. When explaining the draft for pants or slack it refers continuously to the skirt. Also, it is to confusing in trying to explain how to draft a pattern.

My benefits included basic instructions regarding sleeve cap design, and detailed instruction on taking accurate measurements. I've added this book to my most available resources in my office, and refer to it frequently in the course of designing my own patterns and "fixing" commercially printed ones.

I just started to read and use this book in my home sewing collection. So far I like what I have read, and will start to try some of the lesson soon. However,"How to Draft basic Patterns"(4th Edition),and the technology held within, is only a plus in helping me build a great sloper. If your goal is to teach yourself more about pattern making, this book seems to be very efficient.Roz.

Confusing instructions. For example on page 13 of the hardback version there is a Sample Worksheet For Sleeve Measurements. On that worksheet is a listing for an underarm length measurement. Absolutely NO WHERE in the book are instructions for how to make this measurement. If you read pages 25 through 33 where they tell you how to make the measurements required to draft patterns you will find NO SUCH MEASUREMENT. There is a measurement for underarm seam, but that is NOT the underarm length of a sleeve. Plus many of the measurements they show you how to make are not sone on a human but on a form. Great, if everyone were the shape of a manufactured form we could buy ready-made patterns.This book is expensive and full of confusing instructions. Use caution before buying this book. If you're trying to learn how to draft patterns there must be a clearing book of instruction out there.
