Great addition to the outdoor tool set
I own a Stihl gas powered chainsaw - best chainsaw ever. I have slowly been collecting the entire range of outdoor tools that use M18 batteries and this was kind of far down the wishlist because I love my Stihl. But i picked one up figuring it would be great for light jobs, trimming branches etc.I took down a dead 40 foot aspen with this saw last weekend and bucked it up. The entire job was done with one 9AH battery. I am a bit stunned how long the battery lasted. The saw did a great job and I really like the fact that it only runs when you are cutting.I didn't think anything would replace the Stihl. I'm still not sure that this will, but it stands a chance, which frankly surprises the hell out of me.

Legit saw
Since I have several other Milwaukee Fuel tools and love them, I originally bought this chainsaw for some around-home tree trimming. It proved to be perfect for that situation - and worked with some of my existing M18 9.0 batteries. Soon after I bought this, however, I was asked to cut some wood at a friend's farm - so, a bit skeptical, I thought I'd take my new chainsaw along to see how it'd do "in the real world." I ended up using the 12.0 batteries for this use - had two of them and the rapid charger. The saw did amazing - and without the hassle of trying to get a gas saw started! My friend kept asking me, "is that still your first battery?" As one battery would finally run out, I'd put in the second and throw the other on the charger which was plugged in to my truck's power inverter. Occasionally adding some bar and chain oil to keep the thing lubed, it cut wood all day. Very pleased with the purchase. One note: if you're going to spend time in the woods with this saw, definitely invest in the 12.0 batteries. The smaller ones do well for trimming branches or making a few larger cuts, but unless you have a fleet of them, won't keep you cutting long on the real stuff.

Everything you’d expect! Power and easy handling
I’ll starting to build up my M18 collection and this is in the top of my favorites. Have used it multiple times and it’s everything Milwaukee claims it is.You do need 12.0 battery but it lasted about 2 hours nonstop cutting on one use.My buddy is a masoned/contractor and he bought one 2 weeks after using mine. He was surprised with the amount of power

Awesome little worker
Used it a few times so no long term review (yet). Like it a lot for small to medium work (Haven't tried cutting down a full tree with it yet). 10" size branches, no problem. I use organic vegetable oil and seems to work great. Yes, it uses oil during work, but that is what it is designed to do. I am not an experienced chain saw operator, but i found the following benefits compared to the ol' combustion saw:- Clean, no fumes;- No messing with gas, filling up, no storing gas for this thing, not having to buy gas for this thing is a plus;- Low maintenance (no spark plug, carburetor cleaning, etc.)'- Low noise when in use. Easy on the family's and neighbors ears when in use;- No noise if not in use. Easy on the ears plus its safer too when you can hear surrounding sounds;- Battery dead? just slide in a the next one and keep going;- No smell when not in use. Also, storing this tool with my other Milwaukees in a enclosed/secured cabinet is a benefit (gas tools should be stored in a ventilated cabinet, just FYI);This is my 'short term' review. Thus far, I only see benefits over the gassers and I am very content with my decision. If this saw turns out to be reliable and long lasting, i see no draw backs.

Love this chainsaw
I am so happy with this purchase. I love being able to just pull the trigger rather than fighting with starting a gas powered saw. For the home owner, this chainsaw is perfect. No more endless pulls on a start string in a vain attempt to get a 2-cycle engine to fire after sitting for months. Just pop in a battery and go.First thing I used it on was the 2x4's in my master bathroom shower curb. I know, not what it's meant for, but I was frustrated with the shoddy work and mold and water damage and... Anyway, it ripped into those pieces of wood and never skipped a beat even though I hit a couple screws. I know, I know...why abuse such a great tool? Frustration is a powerful enemy to common sense.Next, I used it to cut down a small Oak tree and saw down an old Sweet-gum stump. It cut through the Oak like butter. The stump was predictably more difficult due to how much drier it was, but this thing got the job done. If going through dry wood, it will chew through a battery pretty quickly, but green wood is no problem for this beast. The weight is nice and feels balanced. It's easy to adjust. The oiler works great.I can't say enough good about this saw. It again confirms why I am sold on Milwaukee tools. You might be able to get a cheaper one out there, but you get what you pay for. With this beautiful tool, you get a rock solid performer that's just raring to go.

Battery battery battery
Works great I think as long as you have the proper use in mind. For cutting logs and firewood to length and anything under 12 in you can't beat it. Only problem is you also need the $300 battery otherwise you're looking at about 5 or 10 minutes of run time. So it's a big battery and realistic use you get a few hours of use out of it definitely like the lack of noise and that I can just fire it up any time for a moment to cut something.

Battery Lasts longer than I do
I do not write reviews often, but the Milwaukee M18 battery powered chain saw is great. I have a number of other Milwaukee tools that use the same battery, including the leaf blower. The leaf blower actually uses the battery faster than this saw. With the large M18 battery, I was able to cut up two large pine trees that fell during our recent ice storm, and the battery was only half drained. Other than being electric, the saw feels like and works like a gas saw, with the exception of being quieter and creating less vibration. I am not a lumberjack. I use a chainsaw to cut down small trees mostly, and clear brush on my property. For this purpose, this saw is ideal.
