Raising the Dead and Returning Life: Emergency Medicine of the Qing Dynasty

This book belong to the Chinese Medicine Database collection and it just happen that I meet the translator, Professor Doctor Wilcox. When you look into a translation from Chinese and even more from Ancient Chinese it requires a great deal of attention with respect of what kind of words you choose when you translate. Well in this case the translator is more then qualified and I like the choice of words for the translation. The book itself is a Classic in Emergency situations and even do some of solutions are strange combinations and it will be hard for one to be convince to try them, you will find inside plenty of very useful information that can enrich your practice. Therefore if you are a trained practitioner or someone interested in Chinese Medicine from personal point of view I think you should have this book.

First I'll begin with the book contents itself. This is an indispensable book for Chinese martial artists, acupuncturists or anyone who wants knowledge of emergency medicine when a hospital is out of reach. I expect that many survivalist types would appreciate it very much. Some of the methods seems strange or archaic, but I had them cross referenced with a Chinese medical pharmacologist and a traditional martial arts medicine doctor. With the exception of obtaining many rare and illegal herbs, many of these therapies are very applicable. I appreciated that the Chinese and English were staggered so that Chinese readers and English readers could literally be on the same page. In addition the translation itself was flawless. Translating old medical texts is no easy task, but thankfully the translator has a strong background in Chinese medicine. I would definitely buy this again and I probably will. I loaned it to a friend who seems to be appreciating very much. If he doesn't return it I'll be getting another copy.

Great read, some of the stuff in this book is far fetched but apparently proven over the years to work. Ultimate first aid in traditional eastern medicine.
