Almost 4 years of daily use and still satisfied. Excellent, reliable
Almost 4 years of daily use and still satisfied with my purchase of this black Herm Sprenger prong collar. Excellent, reliable way to have better leash control over my stubborn 8 year old black labrador / german shepherd mix (approx 85lbs).I still have a normal collar on him when I use this, and I typically attach a backup just in case, but it's never been necessary as long as you attach the collar correctly. First couple times I was confused, but I just wasnt squeezing the prongs correctly. Now it's just second nature.I like the black color too as it looks better than silver would have against his black fur. Good quality, durable purchase.

Does a great job
We have a 25 pound dog that would constantly pull the leash. My wife thought the were mean, but my son has a large puppy that walked better than our three year old. She finally agreed to buy one. The results were amazing. Yes, you have to snap it, but they quickly learn to not pull. Our dog does not pull anymore, and walks are much more enjoyable. It looks nice and pulls smooth. I am very happy with it and would buy it again.

Nice, well made collar and effective
Worked instantly in my 4yo husky. Although I've spent 100s of hours training it not to pull on walks, it is still struggling with this. Using the new collar the instant feedback allowed it to walk lose lead and relaxed. It has sti lunged at dogs and people close by, but no where near as bad as before. I think this collar is excellent in conjunction with good training.

No swivel?
Why doesn't this model come with a swivel to attached the leash to? Do we need to add a swivel so it does not get twisted?

Great Product!
Have been using Sprenger products for years. I thought the silver ones were stainless because they were more expensive. Even the chrome plated Sprenger collar is better made than others. Tried the oxidized black stainless recently and I love it . I just bought a second one today because it is so much lighter in weight. Goes well with my Blue Merle Aussie. Don’t know why people have difficulty with them. I am curious about the black steel and coat color recommendation. My only criticism is I preferred the larger swivel ring on the chrome model for ease of use. Maybe the smaller ring is lighter in weight and just as sturdy. I tend to keep the leash and collar attached anyway. It is my go to collar.

Well made
This is a well made collar. I wasn’t happy about putting my dog in this type collar for training but I’m really happy I spent a little more for this collar It doesn’t feel as sharp and the metal is sturdy and doesn’t feel it will cut into a dog yet it is light weight. My dog doesn’t seem to mind it on him at all, he never walked bad on a leash but this eliminates what little pulling he did do. The trainer we used said it just needs to sit on the dogs neck loosely and tighten when the dog pulls but he warned to make sure the collar slid with ease to loosen, this collar does just that. A lady in training with us bought a quick release one of another brand and she had to physically loosen from the dogs neck.

Works for leash pulling dogs
I was really hesitant about using this kind of product because I hate the idea of hurting my dog. We tried so many other things first. Training, gentle leaders, no pull halters and some of them helped a little but we have a large German Shepherd who can pull me right off my feet. Now he generally has no inclination to pulling me and is typically well behaved but he doesn’t realize his strength on a leash. Now this works like a dream. He gets a little pinch if he lets the leash get taut and that’s enough to keep him from pulling. The prongs are dull not sharp

Game Changer
My little alpha male Rottie is one tough cookie. I felt like he was going to die walking with a flat collar. I've tried all the positive reinforcement methods in the world and felt like I was months away from having an enjoyable walk with the little fella. Five minutes is all it took to get him to heal on this prong collar! I love taking him out on the leash now. This collar is far better than and traditional collar or even a chest harness. He gets lots of treats now for walking so well on a leash.Don't hesitate to buy one of these collars. One of the most humane ways I know of to get your little furball enjoying walks with the family.
