Victor Easy-to-Set DeadSet Mole Trap

I bought two last year for my mole problem and used them for weeks with no results. I ended up having to sit outside with a spade waiting for the ground to move like a complete weirdo. I’m sure my neighbors thought I had lost my mind. But this had become a true Caddyshack moment between me and this mole. It was personal. Totally destroyed my entire front lawn and my garden beds. Ended up getting it with my shovel. This year another mole showed up and in five days almost completely ruined all of my annuals and started in on my lawn again. I bought two more traps. I identified where they were coming out from underneath the porch and their main tunnels that fed the secondary tunnels. About two hours after setting all four traps, one had tripped and my cat was standing over it staring intently. I could hear the spring twitching. I dug it up with a shovel and there it was, clinging to life. These things are solid pieces of equipment, well designed. Don’t get cheap knock offs, you get what you pay for. It comes down to this; if you only have a couple traps, you better know where they are coming from otherwise they will just make more tunnels and go around them. I hate to sound like a salesman, but you need to have multiple traps to catch the moles in the act. They work too quickly for single or few traps. But if you compare this to the hundreds of dollars I spent on annuals this year, and the hundreds of dollars it took me to repair my lawn last year, these traps are the best money I’ve ever spent. Also, make sure to set them deep enough or the moles just sneak out under them. These traps work perfectly if you know what you’re doing but you have to find the tunnels they use.

I have had nothing but trouble with these traps. I bought one a few weeks ago when my yard started to fill up with tunnels and mole hills. When it arrived, I went to set the trap. I followed the directions on the box. I pulled up on the handle, and discovered that the trap wouldn't set. Every time, I tried, I could get the spring to completely compress, and it would just slide back down. I returned the product and got a new one in return. I flattened the ground again. That night it rained, and I had new tunnels appearing. I placed the trap, and set it. I came out the next day, and found the moles were just taunting me now. Overnight, I found a mole hill had developed with a hole at the top right next to the trap which had not sprung. I moved the trap and found that it was still not releasing the nails when there was new activity all around the trap. I took the trap out and got a long stick. I repeatedly hit the trigger hard with the stick, and after about 6 hits, it finally triggered. I'm done. This thing is worthless.

Nice trap. Needs improvement. The Third time I moved it a plastic spike leg broke off at the screw that holds the trap together. The trap needs to be reinforced where screws are. Do not tilt the trap when removing it from the ground trying to see if it got a mole. That's how I broke mine. Over all it is a good trap. This one killed 3 moles that were destroying my yard. After it kills a mole, wash your trap with soap and water. The moles can smell death and will avoid your trap. I do recommend this trap but, be careful when you put it in the ground and when you move it. Hopefully Victor will see this and make improvements needed to make it more durable.

I have tried 3 diiferent traps, scissor and plunger types are difficult to set up and hard to release the mechanism. This one is easy to set up and simple to release the mechanism. I did not catch the mole because it has gone on to the neighbour's yard, but this is the one for regular folks for sure.

This trap is great! Easy to use and set. Need to trip it multiple times after pressing in the dirt to make sure the spikes can move freely when triggered.

Not for the squeamish! You will have to confront some "not dead yet" situations and dispatch a survivor here and there. There will be blood. I had a problem with furry little rototillers churning up my yard so bad they nearly destroyed a good portion of it. Tried eliminating the food source and using flavored deterrents to little effect. I didn't want to use poison because of the house pets. I didn't want to resort to wholesale murder by impaling the underground menace BUT this is doing the trick. I feel sorry for the critters but its us or them and I'm tired of my yard looking like a Word War One battlefield. The population is slowly diminishing. My only concern is for the longevity and sturdiness of the device. I understand from a manufacturing standpoint that plastics are the way to go, but critical stress points need to be stronger.

I work in plastics and can tell you from 30 years of experience they make plastic at least 3 times stronger than this. Very first use It went in the ground just fine. The next day it was tripped so I slowly pulled it out of the ground gripping it with both hands and on both sides. Pulling it up evenly I heard a Crack and this is what I found. I will not buy these again. It may still work but without both legs it may not perform as well. I'm looking around now for some metal traps that won't break or at least I can weld it back together if it does. Just in case you buy one of these be very careful installing and uninstalling because they are super cheap in material but not in price. BTW I wasn't going to do a review until my wife brought one to me in the same condition the very next day. I bought 2 of them and they lasted less then 24 hours. According to my wife she was very careful after seeing the first one break. Even being gentle with them didn't help. 2 stars because I suppose if you have a child install one it may not break. Plus even with just one spike/leg I think it may continue to serve its purpose. Only time will tell haven't poked one yet.

Trigger problem. It takes about 4 lbs of force to trip it. But sometimes it trips with a light tap. I set it on a mole hole and the mole came up his hole and presumably hit the trigger plate. He dug all around underneath it and pushed dirt halfway up inside it past the trigger plate and it still didn't go off. So I tested the trigger and most of the time it took about 4 lbs force to go off but a few times a light touch. Also, after testing it, now when you cock it the trigger won't hold it. Another indication of the trigger problem. It was so bad I can't believe this was anything other than a lemon. Otherwise everyone would give it 1 stars. (except those who rate 5 stars before they even open the box) I'm ordering a replacement on that theory and because it is such a perfect way to get my moles that make a small hill then come back to enlarge it and this will be waiting when they start pushing more dirt up out of the hole. If the next one is bad I will return it too. The way I am using it is not recognized but I am sure it will work.

Having used conventional traps with varying success I purchased one of these traps. It was delivered, I set it up following the online advice from other users and the next morning the trap had gone off and I had caught the culprit. The trap is effective as you don’t have to disturb the mole’s run to set it up.

This product lacks the expected quality. And then when I asked for a refund I was asked to pay shipping myself and would only receive a portion of what I paid for the item back. Item is sitting brand new in its packaging still but is useless for me to use or return at this point.

I have been trying to get rid of this shovel foot for over a year. It has wrecked my lawn and I have tried all the various devices to try and catch it without any luck. This device nailed the little perisher within a week. It's easy to set and works a treat although it only works on surface runways. The main problem with the device is that the foot pegs are easily broken. If the device has triggered then my advice is to withdraw the trap from the ground and then dig down to see if you have speared a mole. If you try to dig the device out complete with mole you stand a very good chance of breaking off the foot pegs with your spade.

Tried to set it but the mechanism wouldn't work. Even had an exterminator try it and he couldn't get it to arm it. I don't recommend this Victor M9015 Deadset Mole Trap, Black. If I could have left no star I would have.
