Great Pants
Like most of you, if you are reading reviews for these pants, I am always on the hunt for that perfect pair of practical (or cargo, or tactical, as you prefer) pants. I am not military or law enforcement, and I don't really want to look like a Wannabee - but I do engage in practical activities that require a good pair of practical pants. I'm a competitive shooter (mostly IDPA) and need pants that can hold and stow a lot of gear for a long day at the range. I also need them to be strong and durable, comfortable, and to allow good freedom of movement. And yeah, I will also wear them all weekend long too, or on trips around town. There are a few key brand names in the Tactical Pants business. 5.11 is one, perhaps the most popular or well known. It is difficult to discuss the attributes of a pair of Tac pants without making the obvious comparisons to 5.11. Add to that - this pant is designed VERY SIMILAR in many aspects to the 5.11 Tactical pants. Therefore, it is almost necessary to compare them side-by-side.I recently purchased my first pair of Propper pants, in Gray lightweight, 32x30. If you don't want to read all the way through - here's the cut to the chase: I like them very much and will probably buy more. Now, here's why:- Quality of finish and materials is top notch. There are no loose threads, no crooked seams, no dropped stiches. Good stuff all around.- Rip-stop material is light but incredibly strong. You will get a lot of wear from these pants before they hit the rag pile. They also feel very breathable, unlike a typical synthetic feel. This could just be because they are lightweight, but it works.- Sizing is very accurate. One important note however - the sizing is a very true sizing, not ego sizing. I have several 5.11 pants in 32 waist and they are much looser than these Propper pants are at the waist. That is good and bad... it's okay if you really do know and order your real size, but not if you rely on the "extra" that most clothing makers give these days. That said, I would like a wee little bit of relaxation to the waist. The expandable elastic waistband is a bit rough on the skin. This is in part due to the synthetic material (opposed to soft cotton), but worn snug they will leave some red marks.- The Propper pants are almost a carbon copy of the 5.11 design, but for a few key and very noteable exceptions:--- Rear pockets are not as low cut as 5.11, but run straight across at the back--- Inside the rear pockets (which are large and roomy) there is a second pocket that is "regular sized" and perfect for a wallet. This is a HUGE plus for me, because I hate my wallet rolling around inside the 5.11 pants and landing in all sorts of uncomfortable spots. The wallet stays put right where it should be in the Proppers - whether you are a right or left cheeck kinda guy... they are both there.--- The front right pocket has a watch pocket as well as a small inner sub-pocket at the bottom. Both good to have. The left has neither and is just a normal pocket. Front pockets are well cut with a good angle, allowing easy in/out access for your hand - even if you're holding something in your hand...--- Fewer belt loops on Propper than on 5.11, and differently spaced.--- Less material in the crotch area on Propper than on 5.11. If you do significant crouching activities, you may notice the difference.--- The fly is shorter on the Propper, maybe by 1/2" or more overall. This does have an ergonomic impact gentlemen (I prefer the 5.11 one).- Things that are same/similar to 5.11 Tactical Pro:--- The lower edges of the pocket stitching is reinforced for a knife or flashlight clip or similar. This should help prevent premature wear from metal clips. (front pockets only on Propper, 5.11 has it also on rears)--- Left side small cargo pocket, perfect for most cell phones, flashlight, magazine, etc. Basically identical to 5.11--- Right appendix D-ring on belt loop--- Similar material weight and construction. Rip-stop synthetic blend.- Miscellaneous comparisons (in no particular order):-- 5.11 is overall more comfortable right off the bat, but Propper is cleaner looking and "dressier".-- Propper has much less "droopy flat butt" look than 5.11. Trade is comfort and flex versus ego and appearance. Your significant other will tell you that you look better in the Propper pants. :-)-- Propper includes a nice duty-style belt in the matching color of your pants. That's nothing to sneeze at, because even a cheap duty belt is $20 or more. The belt is great quality, but is a bit longer than it needs to be. A great added value.Overall, I don't want to give an opinion about one versus the other. I think the comparison is important, whether you're trying to decide between the two brands for a first purchase, or if you're familiar with 5.11 already. In the final analysis - I like these Propper Tactical Lightweight pants, and will order more. I have the gray - which is much darker than the photo here shows. Khaki would probably be my next choice, since summer is coming soon! Propper is about $10 less than 5.11, as of this writing. Consider the included belt, and that is a great value. I think you owe it to yourself to give them a try!

Good pants, Zipper short
Really liked the pants except the zipper. It was too short which made it hard to work through it, if you know what I mean.

I wish that they were not Velcro
I wish that they were not Velcro, although they are. I prefer my BDU pants with the buttons rather than Velcro. They fit and they work as pants work.

Very good functional pants - not perfect, but close!

40 x 32 is more like 44 x 34 - extra small pockets inside pockets impede in/out
I'm guessing the small pockets inside the 2 front and rear pockets serve some purpose and just take some getting used too. For me, they just impede sliding my wallet and other things in and out of the pockets.I should have returned these based on the size. Maybe someone at the mfg mislabeled them.

I really enjoyed these pants.

The waist is a size smaller than labelled, when compared to other trousers. Order a size larger than you normally wear.
These are really good quality lightweight trousers. I can't see a single manufacturing fault or loose thread anywhere. Nice ripstop fabric, solid fastenings. Their being unhemmed with no option for different leg lengths is a little annoying, I'll now have to find somewhere to get it done properly (propper-ly?), but I knew that when I bought them. This would be an avenue for improvement though, to have pre-hemmed leg length options.I do have two issues with these trousers, one of which costs it a star. One, the cargo/leg pockets are about an inch, an inch and a half too low down the leg in my opinion, too close to the knee. I have to lean to the side to access them properly, whereas on other cargo trousers I have the pockets are slightly higher and I can reach in and to the bottom with my arm's natural length without having to lean. It's minor, I know, but it's there. Two, and most importantly for me, and this is the one that costs the star, the waist is not the advertised size. When the elasticity is fully extended it's two inches smaller than advertised and labelled. I've measured this directly against other trousers I own. Those are X inches in the waist, these are X-2 inches. Order a couple of inches larger than you'd normally wear and you'll be fine. Unfortunately for me I live in England and bought these from the Global Store so I'm not returning them, far too much hassle. More motivation to lose weight, I guess.

crotch too low, hard to bend at knee
Would be really nice pants but the crotch is soo low it makes its hard to throw aaknee or ben over even though its baggy. Im size 36 and bought a pair size 36 by 34. These look cool and i would love them but it impedes my movement so ill just stick to my stretchy jeans from walmart lol, they dont have cargo pockets like these propper pants but i canactually move in them so thats awesome. These propper pants feel like theyy are gonna rip everytime i have to bend and they are a baggy fit.... so weird. I think you have to be like a super thick guy to wear these or pull them up like urkel. im 6 foot and 206 pounds, im not exacly skinny myself and these pants just dont fit right, and the 36 is a tad snug on the waist, it barely has any stretch in the waist band . if ur 36 maybe try a 38, maybe then it would actually let you bend , maybeee, idk. i cant believe no one else mentioned the super low crotch and it being hard to move in these pants. i got mine for 20 bucks so no big deal, seen the size 38 for 11 bucks. should have got the 38 probably. idk.

Tight in all the wrong places and loose in the rest
I'm of average build and likely small in build compared to most LE and military so it's surprising how tight these pants are around the quads. They're also too loose around the calves/ankles and really limiting in mobility. I have a hard time raising my knee to 90°. There is no stretch to the fabric which doesn't help. For the price I would still say they're a relatively good deal but I should have spent more for something a little better. Build quality seems okay but I just got them so it's really too soon to say. Bottom line from my limited experience: if you have large quads or need a wide range of motion you're probably better off looking elsewhere.

So Close to perfect
I want to love these pants. They're so close! So far they're quite sturdy and easy to care for. Dirt and dust wipes off fairly easy until you need to throw them in the wash. A few quibbles that I don't like personally, and this is a matter of preference.1) I would have preferred buttons on the pocket flaps instead of velcro.2) I find the beltloop placement a bit off. I would have preferred another set between the sides and the front - but this is where the waistband elastic is, so it probably isn't feasable3) an additional D-ring for keys at the back would be nice - I've never liked carrying my keys in front.I like the fabric, at first it was quite stiff and somewhat uncomfortable, but after a few washes they've softened up somewhat, while still looking crisp and smart. I've worn them on a blustery, misty day and they block the wind better than I expected and the mist just beaded on the surface. They're also more breathable than the pants I was using for work previously. How warm or comfortable they'll be in the summer months remains to be seen. For my body, I would prefer a slightly slimmer fit - I'm 6 feet, 150lbs, so it's not often I'll find a pair of pants that fit "just right". They're also a higher waisted pant then I'm used to wearing - again, not a fault of the panst, it's just different from what I've been used to and have become more comfortable with them after wearing them a few days.Overall a good product - I'd definitely consider purchasing again.
