A must have for every pool owner!
I waited to review my purchase until I had a full season of pool usage under my belt with the Phin. I closed my pool this past weekend (Sept 19) and had the easiest, most successful pool season in my 5 years of owning a pool. For reference, I own a 24' round above ground pool with a DE filter. The Phin (our's is named Aqua Chuck) was packaged well and setup was easy. Note that I own an Android phone (Galaxy S8) so your mileage may vary if you are an iOS user. When I opened the pool in May I also activated the Phin and placed it in the pool. I did have some trouble getting the Phin to communicate with the plug-in receiver, but after moving it to an upstairs bathroom and tethering the Phin to the closest side of the pool finally hit a reception sweet spot for the whole season. If your pool is really far away from your house, this will be a problem and a constant source of frustration. I also found that when I put my solar cover over the pool that if I covered the Phin, it would not connect. I had to fold over the solar cover where the Phin was to get it to connect. In regards to chemicals, the Phin supports only a limited amount of chemicals. I like to purchase my pool chemicals at a local Job Lot and none of them were covered by the Phin. I also couldn't find a way to suggest they be covered. Instead, I would use the unlisted chemicals in the amounts recommended by the Phin. When I could use a recommended chemical it was a breeze. The Phin will tell you the exact number of pouches of shock or ounces of stabilizer, etc. to use each week. The Phin also comes with test strips to check other chemical balances of the pool which I found valuable although I wish the Phin asked me to use them more often than I did. I think I used maybe 5 of them in the season; it did not ask me to check test strips weekly like I expected. Nothing was stopping me from checking them weekly, but the app didn't ask me to and you only receive a limited amount of test strips.Once I got my chlorine and Ph under control, which took maybe a week with the Phin, I never had an issue with them for the entire season. The Phin would always ping me when it was time to add chemicals. Not once was the pool over-chlorinated or "dangerous" to use per the app. One other thing to note, in the past I used a lot of Algaecide on my pool. This year, I used one bottle when I opened the pool and never had to use it again. The water was THAT clean. I really feel that I have Phin to thank for that. The last comment I will make is on the price. $350 is a lot to spend in one go and I was definitely skeptical about spending that much on something that some reviewers said didn't work properly. In addition, spending another $99 each year after the first for monitoring services had my on the fence. Not only do I now think the price is justified, but I've recommended the Phin to anyone I know who owns a pool. I will happily spend the $99 next year for monitoring. Plus, the renewal ensures that if the Phin dies for any reason, the company will send me a replacement. All in all, this is an excellent product and I'm so happy I purchased it. Thank you Phin!P.S. Don't throw away the little clear plastic cap that is on the Phin sensor, you'll need this when you close your pool and put the Phin away for next year. Luckily I found mine!

Solved my hot tub problems
I'm a hot tub newbie but also someone involved in science. I say that because I admit I've never liked test strips, not in science and definitely not with my hot tub. I find them difficult to read accurately and while cheap just not something I like to use.So, I got my new tub during COVID and thought I had it figured out multiple times. But my water kept getting cloudy. I obsessively tested with strips and everything seemed fine so far as I could tell. But I still had my cloudy water problem even after a whole bottle of clarifier.I broke down and bought this. They test strips that I take a picture of and don't have to interpret are great. Turns out I had soft water, a low pH, and low alkalinity. Less than one day later it was perfect and crystal clear. I really love that it reminds me to do certain things which I struggled with before I bought this.I may check my water quality in the app WAY too much, obsessively even. But I love this thing. This points of criticism so far one month in. There are times, usually at night, when it doesn't update the stats as frequently and that annoys me. Mostly because I love data and want to know how things I do change things. Second, I bought some of the chemicals on the very large list that are compatible and when I scanned them in the app it said they couldn't my found.Bottom line, I personally think it's worth the money because of the piece of mind and ease of use.

JUST PLAIN BAD
Purchased this in early May. Opened the pool in mid may and had rain for about 3 weeks. The setup was very easy, both the device and the bridge. Once in the pool I was hopeful it would work well. The app was easy to follow as well. The only problem is the unit, which is OVER 350 bucks is not accurate at all ! It would tell me to make huge adjustments (increase chlorine by 3ppm, increase pH by 0.8) and when I checked against actual test numbers they were WAY OFF. I test my pool water VERY often and keep it very accurate and the phin would constantly ask for adjustments that were absolutely not needed. !!!emailed customer care a few times, they sent a new unit, same problems. Now they tell me to "wait for the new bridge to come out" but have no idea when that will be ?!! Sadly the worst part was after all the bad readings, swapping out another unit, emails, etc, ITS OVER 30 DAYS SO I CANNOT RETURN THE WORTHLESS THING !!!I double checked all these readings with a Lamotte ColorQ 7 which is FABULOUS. $170 and worth every penny. Always VERY ACCURATE....buy that instead...trust me
