Physalis pruinosa Sow seeds indoors ¼" deep. Plant out when the danger of frost has passed. Excellent results at Heritage Farm when grown on landscape cloth, which suppresses weeds and makes collecting the fruits easier. We have sprouts!
So excited, they have sprouted, yay! They sprouted quickly, now we wait and see how they grow. I am in zone 8, I will update the process with more pictures. I also soaked the seeds in 3% hydrogen peroxide for 30 min. before planting. The hydrogen peroxide aids in the germination process by softening the outer covering. If you try this method make sure it is only 3% and only 30 min.

Tiny seeds
It took a month for seed delivery from Kowloon. Wondering why a native north American seed would come from Hong Kong... Am planting this week, update to follow later in the season.UPDATE: Planted April 4th, NOT ONE seed germinated! Big disappointment. It looked like I received mainly paper husks. (Plants shown on far right are peas from a reputable source that DID germinate.) AVOID THIS VENDOR!

Just order directly from Seed Savers, save yourself the trouble. This package of seeds came from Germany, for some reason, was super late, and then arrived empty. The seeds were confiscated by the US FDA.I ordered the same seeds from Seed Saver's and got the seeds just fine a week later. They also often have live Ground Cherry plants for sale.

Guess Someone Packaged My Ground Cherries Incorrectly
I have gardened many years in my 81, had ups and downs . [This was disappointing as all the seed from the "Ground Cherries" grew lettuce , only.]( Already have lots of varieties lettuce growing several yards from where I planted the "Ground Cherries."Sad indeed after discovering this cherry in Quebec, Canada while on vacation. [Got home to locate seed through Amazon .com before we moved last year.] Was really looking forward to grow "Ground Cherries."Read the success of others but feel my package was filled incorrectly. [Never in my life time, 81, and many years of successful gardening have I encountered a problem like this.

Terribly Disappointed
We had high hopes for these seeds but not one came up. We have grown these plants before and never had any problems so this is very disappointing. We wrote the seller and have not heard from them.

I have in the past planted ground cherries and we love how fun this plant is
I was so excited to plant these in my garden this year. I have in the past planted ground cherries and we love how fun this plant is. Let alone they are tasty little things.That being said, I am so disappointed that not a single seed grew. everything else in my garden grew however these have produced not a single seedling. I truly am sad about this.

Delicious little treasures hidden inside little paper lanterns.
I got my first choke cherry (ground cherry) seeds as a free gift when I ordered something last year. I was delighted when little paper-like lanterns appeared on the plants that quickly grew. Knowing that they were edible, I peeled the paper back exposing a little golden globe. I tried it and it was delicious! One little plant produced an incredible amount of fruit....which I never got to eat because one little 9 year old girl got to them before I could every time. This year, she requested them specifically, so I'm planting them again. Maybe this year, I'll get some.

This was a fun addition to the garden and we'll plant again next ...
Delicious to snack on or use in desserts. I used a suggestion for planting these in very small pots indoors in late winter. I used a pencil eraser to put them in the soil since they are so small. Every seed came up. In fact, I only planted half of them. This was a fun addition to the garden and we'll plant again next year.
