Great Monster Boot for Major Hiking
Retired Army Soldier who loves Hiking and Boots. I have a lot of Keens, Columbia and Merrills etc. Love the Targhee 2 Mid boot. Looks real nice. Nice big toe box and tight heel. It is not as pretty as the narrower Targhee 3 Mid BUT it makes up for that in quality, durability and down right great in dirt and rocks. Think 4x4. Would buy again. Recommended if you are patient. Cannot wear for serious hiking right out of the box as it will rub your ankles and is stiff. Pain. Not comfortable as the low quarters when new. I almost gave up until I read online how to properly break them in and that really worked. Took over 4 weeks. Long time! Deviate and you will regret it. They do get better over time. No serious Hiking at first. They are warm and even a little hot. Remember waterproof and stiff and Fall-Winter. Here is the process: 1) wear them for 5 days indoors w/o socks. Unlaced and then fully laced. Not tight. Let your feet sweat and mold them to your foot. Trains both the boot and your foot to the Mid level feel. Call them indoor slippers. 2) wear them another 5 days indoors but with light-medium hiking socks on and lightly but fully laced. Increases the training and you get used to them. You want them tighter BUT do not cut off circulation. I used non-binding diabetic socks with the wide tops. No sock top indentations. No cotton! 3) wear them another 5 days mostly indoor with heavier socks on (nonslip merino blend or better synthetic mix to avoid blisters - NO cotton at all), then fully, normally laced (pinky finger under each lace or less - not too tight or loose), but walk them outside to the mailbox many times, stairs or up & down the hard sidewalk for 30 mins. Short excursions then sit with boots on and sweat. 4) wear them again for another 5 days mixed indoor and longer outdoors (errands and stores) with med-heavy socks on, remember to sit and sweat afterwards. 5) Proof your successful breakin by walking 2 miles and maybe a few feet slow jogging. Remember to sit and sweat afterwards. Should be comfortable by now or you skipped in the process or your feet are really unique. And last 6) Go for several 5-10 mile hikes over varying terrain. You should start to love them like I did. If all okay, you are now ready for some serious Hiking 25-50 mile or more. Learn to lace up different ways and get Laces that don't slip and untie or use plastic stops. Be sure to take extra dry socks and enjoy the scenery! Yeah I know this is not Fast Food but for nearly $200 bucks, your feet deserve it. Now, I still prefer low quarter Targhees 2 & 3 and Merrill Moab 2s for short stuff. I like 6-8" high top boots for long backpack trips, ice/snow, deep water and for more overall support, esp in rocks and hills. Avoid sprains. But the Targhee 2 Mid fits the bill for in between Low and High. I found the Targhee 3 Mid too light, narrow, toe box smaller, soft and more suited for casual daily stuff, like the Mall and no backpacks. Felt too many rocks with them so no trail running. Wear them daily with jeans and on Sundays for the great look. Now, the Targhee 2 Mids can handle a backpack and a lot more difficult terrain. Love them Mid 2s after that long tedious breakin. BUT REMEMBER NOTHING IS PERFECT !!! AND THEY DON'T LAST FOREVER !!! Your feet will tell you what they like! Listen to your unique body. Don't injure your feet out in the wild. So carry tent, rain gear, water, food, protection and a good first aide kit. And a BUDDY. Hike on !!!

At last! A wide in my size that fits.
I had some Targee's years ago that fell apart after a long distinguished career. (I am an AT Trail Maintainer and certified sawyer). I went to a Vasque model that is OK - not available wide though, so bought 1/2 size up. The soles wore quickly and the the uppers have started to come apart after a couple of years.Took a chance on the Targee II model when I saw it was available in wide. They fit well and we'll report on how the perform on the trail. Going to do so trail work that does not require a hard toe boot this weekend, so I'll give them a trial in "Rocksylvania" - I'll know later that day whether these are a good as my original Targees were.Follow up: Long hard day doing heavy trail work and clearing blow downs on the AT in PA. The boots were perfect, Most comfortable light boot I have owned in a while. Covered about 4 miles with chainsaw pack and extra water (in the 90’s today) and moved several boulders with the high line team to position for footing for a 38’ replacement bridge. Whew! At least my feet feel great.

Rubber soles detached
I still give a four star for this boot because this is the best boot I've ever owned as far as comfort and still being waterproof despite walking in all day rain, except that the soles on both of these boots just simply started detaching on the sides and finally the entire soles completely detached, and at the most in opportune moment.. This , with simply walking, no type of hard work that would stress them out. I used a shoerepair adhesive to reattach them. The factory construction seems to be as if it was heat sealed or heat molded onto the rest of the boot.My note to the designer/manufacturer would be: if I can repair this with an adhesive then why can't you do the same in the first place?

A solid go to for the last 10 years for me
I have been buying these same boots for going on 10 years now. They are comfortable and I use them for work where I am on my feet 10 hours a day. The boots usually last me around a year.. They would last me even longer but the point of replacement comes from the soles and heals wearing down. I have never worn through any of the leather the boots are made of. If the sole lasted more then 1 year I would give this a 5 star plus!!

LOVE Keens
This is probably my 10th pair of Keens. I wear them for everyday stuff for a couple years and then get another pair. I have several steel toe versions as well. Some mid height and some low. They fit me perfectly. There's plenty of room in the toe box for me. Once I figured out my size, I can just order them off the internet and know they'll fit me right. I feel like I could get a brand new pair and put them on and go hike a 10 mile trail without problems. Definitely the right shoe for my feet.

Insoles are cheep. Replace first thing.
Replaced insoles after first use and i think these my be my favorite hiking boot yet. Love the ankle high shoe sting locks. The keep the ankle very tight withought over tightning the top of the foot. Nice and wide soles witch i need. All around good shoe.

Looks great - Fit is normal - Quality isn't what it used to be...
I have worn Keen mid hikers for many years now... I have notice a decline in the overall quality, these used to last me nearly 2 years with daily wear, now I'm lucky to get 6-8 months out of them... I haven't found a replacement yet that I like, so I'll be sticking with these for now. Hopefully quality will improve since I do enjoy wearing them.

Reliable
This is the fifth pair of Keen boots I have owned. Always fit well and are comfortable. Will never buy a different brand again - even though i have to pay postage to Australia because my size is not sold here!

Trabaja por el pie
ya había tenido la experiencia con la versión de zapatos bajo, me incline por la versión bota debido al excelente agarre, la correcta amortiguación y porque en bota es mas adecuado para hacer montañismo

Great boot! My second pair!
This is my second pair. My 1st pair are still in decent condition so I’ll use them for dog walking now. These are my everyday winter boot. Sizing is true. I put bees wax on my boats to prolong their life and look. Great traction as I never lose my footing. Good boat and value for the money!

The right foot and left foot of the boots are different colours.
Terrible service provided by Amazon. The right and left boot are not the same colour. There was no labelling attached to the boots that you normally get with new boots. I thought it was UK regulation that new footwear must be labelled with an indication of the main material from which the upper, lining and sock, and outer sole are made in the form of either pictograms (symbols) or words. The label should be attached to at least one item of footwear per pair. These boots had none of this. And there was no packaging inside the boots that you normally get inside new boots.Which makes me wonder if these boots are even new or genuine Keen boots.I signed up for Amazon Prime so I could get these boots on next day delivery as I needed them urgently. When I got in touch with Amazon this morning to request a replacement pair I was told they won’t do this. Yet the same boots, same size same colour is still advertised at the same place on the Amazon website but they want £47.60 more for these same boots. So I’m expected to pay an extra £47.60 because of Amazons poor quality management. Should it not be up to Amazon to fulfil my original order, I would have hoped so but they tell me another story. What a waste of time and money and a pure rip off.I accept if the size wasn’t correct that would be on me, but a different colour of left and right boot, come on that’s just poor poor service…..Update:- I sent an e-mail to Amazon after no joy with their customer services and they offered to cover the extra cost for replacement boots which I received today from Amazon. Happy with outcome and happy with my new boots.
