A widely applicable conversation starter
Priya and Winona take a year off before college to travel around the US, collect racial narratives from every state, tie them to sociological terms, stats, and trends, and assemble these into a timely, important, attractive "story"-book.The genius of this book is in its wide appeal. If any of the following describe you, you should read it:• You’re new to racial literacy and you’d appreciate an accessible and engaging starting point• You’re a scholar of racial literacy but you feel jaded by the weight of the work and need a fresh injection of humanity• You’re a parent wanting to give your [I recommend middle school+] kids frameworks for differences in people they see or don’t see, in a way that’ll hold their attention• You can't devote hours to reading, but would like to learn something in 2-3 pages at a time• You’re interested in identity, memory, and the power of an individual narrative• You’re interested in patterns, history, and the importance of sociological context• You’re a student with a passion, trying to figure out how to put it to pen and paperTell Me Who You Are is a conversation starter (...literally). It's easy to put to use in homes, schools, houses of worship, workplaces, affinity groups, civic organizations, and support groups. At the very least, it gives voice and vocabulary to a nuanced, but often thorny, topic. Recommended.

Stunning!
I liked to pick up this book in the evenings to read before I went to sleep, but it was so difficult to stop reading (just one more story, just one more...), I started going to sleep pretty late! I can clearly see how much work went into this book. I deeply appreciate the images and all of the stories representing numerous walks of life; as stated by the authors, I definitely wish I had had such a resource when I was younger. I have already purchased multiple copies and plan to share the book with friends and former teachers. Regardless of where you are in your understanding and comfort of discussing race, racism, and beyond, this book is an incredible resource. With footnotes, pictures, and excerpts from interviews that average maybe 2.5 pages, "Tell Me Who You Are" provides many means through which you can start a conversation. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to share the joy and inspiration this book gave me!

Review from a Monastery of Nuns
I am so hopeful because of the hearts, work and grand effort of Winona and Priya! The book is so beautifully done with pictures that also include the human things that we all have written around the individual. It immediately gives you a connection no matter what is unlike you. Each telling their own story. After a short time you realize that we are all human with the same hopes, joys and depths of sorrow. What makes us different from one another is not be feared but rather enriches us as humans! Look at an aquarium - it becomes more beautiful as all the amazing different colors, shapes and sizes of fish are swimming in that one tank! An image God intends us to learn from I think! Thank you Winona and Priya!

Vital reading!
This book blends authentic stories with rigorous research and reflection, and it speaks back to a growing concern that the United States is irreparably separate and unequal. In these pages we get a glimpse of how everyday people are working to understand themselves and others. It is an invitation for each of us to push past racial narratives and cultural stereotypes, and to begin the process of (re)connecting with our neighbors, coworkers, and even ourselves. The text doesn't just offer a toolkit for racial literacy, however important. It is also a guide into the more difficult work of questioning our own assumptions and attachments, as the basis for deeper social connection and solidarity. Vital reading for everyone!

A Must Have for any library
I just started reading this book and it is amazing. It's fascinating to hear another person's life experiences ... it gives you a lot to consider and think about. It must to rest some of the assumptions about racism and how each person experiences it.
