As a lead mechanic of a very diverse fleet of agricultural machinery, I depend on repair manuals to help me maintain my fleet. No person can keep all the procedures in their head, and these books are a handy reference for procedures and torque values and tolerances. I have purchased an IT shop book for every tractor we own.
