Battery life is decent. Heavy shooters need backup batteries.
Original battery is an original battery. Works to spec. And I am happy they kept the same battery as the E-M5 for the E-M1. I have had the E-M1 for a month now and Id say the battery life it just fine. I read somewhere that someone was only getting 250-300 shots per charge. No way that is true. I just recently shot a party and took 1021 shots and I still had a quarter battery left at the end of the night. I got another 200 shots in the morning and though blinking never shut off. If you shoot a lot, its nice to have another battery waiting. The actual charging does takes awhile in my opinion. Longer then my 7D batteries take to charge.

Good, but expensive battery.
It's really hard to argue with Olympus' battery in terms of performance. They've never caused a problem and charge fairly quickly in the factory charger. The price is tough to deal with but it seems like it's set in stone (or close to it, anyway) by the factory. 3rd party knockoff batteries seem to vary wildly in terms of performance but these are always very steady. The OM-D can be a power hog, especially if you use the screen as a viewfinder, but these have always performed well for me. Combining a couple with use of the battery grip will usually give me over a thousand photos worth of a charge before I have to think about swapping them out.

As expected
Appears to be identical to the one that came with the camera. It works: charges fine, works in the camera with no anomalies, and seems to hold the charge. Batteries, however, need many charge cycles to prove themselves and this one has yet to get that, but I am optimistic. The vendor is in Hong Kong so I was concerned about delivery. No problem! Shipped the next day and arrived near the earliest of possible delivery date range. Cost too much but it seemed less risky than the alternatives.

OK and necessary
This Olympus battery for the OM-D E-M5 is a good battery. And you need an extra one as a backup for the one that comes with the new camera. That's because a fully charged battery begins to give you a low-battery warning sooner than I expected. I am on vacation with my new OM-d E-M5, being a tourist in Europe, taking pictures of the sites at the usual rate, and running one battery down in about one-and-a-half to two days ... while I am out touring and photographing. So I am carrying a spare battery with me which I change in the field. The battery charges in about 4 hours, so I recharge a low one in my hotel room when my tourist day is over.

the two batteries worked fine at first and then after only two months started ...
i bought two of these batteries thinking that they would help with my battery life issues. the two batteries worked fine at first and then after only two months started running out of juice after just a few shots. i am using these batteries in a underwater camera and housing and there is some drain from using the flash but the performance is totally unacceptable for the 60.00 price of each battery.

Nothing like the original for best results from the camera.
While the cost is a turn off, the product works well and allows 300+ shots per full charge. Worth the extra money in my book.

Some work, some don't
I bought 2 of these, one works flawlessly and one now doesn't work at all. I will put it in the camera, turn it on and the camera will turn on and off a few times then die. I have delpeted and charged the battery to check if that was it, redone my firmware but the bottom line is that my camera works with one battery and not the other. They are both the original olympus ones. There is something wrong inside the battery, it is out of the return period and I can't afford a new one.

Pricey, in short supply, lasts a while
It is absurd that this battery costs what it does. However, it does last a reasonably long time. When the EM-5 came out, some people complained about battery life issues. I think the shortage of batteries may have been related to quality control issues.Good to have at least on of these spare.I bought some third party batteries, and they don't last as long, need a different charger, and don't give a battery status onscreen. However, they were much, much cheaper. I keep those around a backup, and use the real Olympus battery whenever I can.
