Hot Texas, Cool fishes!
Very pleased with unit. We live near Austin, Texas and have yet to use our central cooling this summer. It's been mid to low 90's during the day. We are using the 1/4hp unit on our 55 gallon tank, and it's overkill. This is what we had hoped, we purchased it for our 110 tank, but we haven't set it up yet. At first the unit seemed loud, but now I rarely notice it running. It needs excellent ventilation, so avoid trying to put it into a closed aquarium base.It runs maybe 2 minutes at a time and shuts off. We have the water temp set to 78 degrees, and it runs maybe once every 10 minutes during the hottest part of the day. We have LED lights and a wooden aquarium topper, both of which can add to the heat level.Only issues with unit were leaking connections at the unit. I don't like the style of connection anyway. They are 1 1/4", which you can find plumbing fittings for at most any big box hardware store to change over too. Spent less than $10 for fittings, and it's worked flawlessly since.Once we get the 110 tank running, we plan to purchase the next smaller unit for our 55 gallon.

Simple to use.. runs well. Easy to install and get working
This is my very first purchase of a chiller. After lots of research into the different vendors and after the absolute SHOCK at the prices, I decided to purchase this 1/4 HP unit for my reef tank. I was a bit concerned about accidents with a chiller, hoses and water but my concerns were unfounded.Installation was quick and easy. The chiller is a bit over-sized for my tank ( this was recommended ) so it runs for about 10-12 mins each hour to keep my tank at the preset temp. The controls are very straightforward and easy to use.I haven't changed the filter for this chiller yet, but the instructions make this sound very easy to do. Time will tell how easy this actually is, and how much a replacement filter costs. Finally, I ordered this chiller and it arrived within 2 days - way quicker than I thought!

IMPRESSIVE
Wow I took the machine out of the box and to make sure it would work I filled my bathtub with a few gallons of water, I live in Florida by the way so summers can be damaging with heat fluctuations on a reef tank anyway the temp scale goes down to 38 but I figured I'd try 52. And over the coarse of a few hours when I went to check on it omg the water was a freezing 52. "The starting point was 94"And the complaints about the machine heating up I did not see enough heat to cause any sort of problem, especially if the back of your aquarium is open. It is a pricey machine but I would absolutely recommend if your in need of a chiller.

Works well, produces a LOT of heat
We purchased this chiller alongside a canister filter with pump for use in our 40 gallon breeder tank housing 2 axolotls and a number of live plants. Our setup is inside a custom cabinet we built to support our tank. We have been successfully using this chiller now for about 2 months.First, this chiller really does work! We did have to adjust its internal thermometer using the included instructions, but that was easy and got the chiller's temperature readout to agree with the tank thermometers we have at either end of our aquarium. Easy peasy. As some other reviewers mentioned, the cooling capability does not kick in until the temperature is 2 degrees F above what you set, so just keep that in mind when setting it up. We have ours set to 62, so our axolotls stay comfortable and cool in a tank that varies from around 62 to around 64/65. Meanwhile, a Nest thermostat controls our home temperature, but that is usually between 68 - 74. By contrast, when we had a smaller tank and just used a fan to cool the water, our tank hovered anywhere from 65-70 degrees in summer, which made us nervous for the well-being of our cold-loving creatures. This tank chiller allows us to keep our house a temperature that is more comfortable to us and saves money on our energy bill, whereas previously our axolotls were freezing us out. More importantly, it keeps them happy and healthy. On the downside, this tank produces a LOT of heat. More than you may think, even if you think you're prepared. We built our tank stand ourselves and included a lot of headroom to allow proper circulation. We also drilled ventilation holes in about a 10" by 10" area directly behind the chiller intake, and another larger vent above the output. EVEN with all that, the chiller overheats if we close our cabinet doors. We are working on installing a little computer fan to force the air through so we can close things up. When sealed off in the cabinet, the chiller is pretty quiet, but it does raise a decent (though not prohibitive) amount of sound with the cabinet doors open. Also, be aware that the fittings for this chiller accommodate a much smaller tubing than most canister filters. We were able to find replacement fittings at Lowe's that fixed that problem for us, but it is definitely a factor to consider. Also, this sucker is big! We intentionally chose a chiller that would fit in our cabinet, but keep in mind it is going to be too large for many setups, and is not very pretty or quiet if left out.The bottom line is that this product is really a necessity if you want to raise axolotls or have a tank with coral or other cold-water flora/fauna. It may be expensive, but it is both worthwhile and even money-saving in the long run. It does work and I do recommend it, but just be aware you may have to make some adaptations to your setup to accommodate this bulky, loud, and hot device. The instructions are thorough: be sure to follow them, or it may not work for you.

Great Chiller and a great price
It has been 2 months and it does it's job without issues. The tank in summer was almost 84 without the chiller. This unit was able to keep it down to 72 with no issues giving my shark a happy home. IT also is very very quiet. I rarely hear it running and seems to be fairly efficient in terms of power usage. Some things to note: The temperature display is always off by 1-2 degrees but this doesn't give any issues. There was an odd smell for the first 2 weeks. It has cleared up since then. The connections leak a bit unless you use a tie down to make sure it is sealed well.

A lot louder than expected
The chiller works great and gets the job done on my 22g tank. I only gave it 3 stars because it creates a lot of heat and is quite loud. I see that most people say its quiet but to me it is very loud. I would say it is a little louder than my window air conditioner. It also makes clunking noises when it turns on and off throughout the day.

Excellent performance and value
I'm using this chiller on a 165 gallon Red Sea Max reef tank. It keeps my water temperature at a constant 77 degrees with ease. It's relatively quiet since I can't really hear it. I have it placed in the stand cabinet of the Red Sea max with good ventilation from behind. It produces a lot of heat but that's expected. Easy controls, looks good and compact. Glad I bought this instead of the more expensive options. This is my 2nd unit. The other unit is a 1/10 hp that I use for a 65 gallon reef tank. I've been using that for the last 3 years with no problems.
