directions say "cleanse rinse and dry before application" anyone know if cleansing has to be by soap and water or rubbing alcohol or any other

I don't think it matters.  I'm sure they want the application to absorb into your skin and don't want any other products interfering with that.  I'm sure you can use rubbing alcohol or a cleansing cloth of some type.

Question 2

I was wondering if this could be used tmfor my TMJ? My right side masseter is in total spasm. Any experiences if put in the jaw?

The use of the products states"temporarily relieves minor pain associated with minor arthritis pain, muscle sprains and strains, simple backache, bruises and cramps. It is for external use only. Do not swallow. Relieves back, knee, neck and shoulder pain. I'm not sure this is the right product for you. Sorry.

Question 3

Does it help for lower back pain and shoulder pain??

My husband swears by it.  He lathers himself wherever it hurts and gets temporary relief.  I have also used it for my back pain before I had a laminectomy in 2012 and I found it to be very helpful.  Whenever We have muscular pain in legs or shoulders it helps.  We order at least 4 at a time so we don't run out!  Contrary to other products this does not smell much at all.  Only initially when you first apply, but we use and go out places with no one the wiser.

Four ounces doesn't seem like very much. With average use on maybe your back and two joints once a day, how long does a tube last?

Not sure I would use it on back. It's effective on joints, i.e., elbows, knees, ankles, fingers, even hips and it lasts quite a while. For back pain I've been using Absorbine veterinary liniment for years. (Yes, veterinary; it even has a picture of a horse on the label. It's available on Amazon.)
