Past, Present, and the Future of 1911's (w Pics)
I've read the electronic copy of the first edition and decided to grab a hardcopy of the second. These aren't really coffee-sized books, more like a thinner hardcover textbook size. This addition adds couple more chapters to the first edition; couldn't find any other major differences (besides the obvious cover.) A lot of great pictures from various collections and an informative writing style on the 1911. I wouldn't say this book is a manual on the maintenance of the 1911, more of the past, present and the future of the 1911.I gave it 4 stars due to the Amazon packaging. They put one bubble pack on top of the book which allowed the book corners to get damaged during transit. Amazon should use bubble mailers for books. but besides that if you want a fun book to look at the past, present and the future of 1911's this is a great book. For maintenance check out Walt Kuleck's Vl1 and V2 books.

Outstanding History from a Different Perspective
I found the never ending series of historical watermarks at play in 1911 a bit too much. I understand it was an attempt to wrap our minds around the enduring legacy and unequalled design of the 1911 but I already knew such to a great degree before reading the book and understood the point after the first few examples.I loved the unique perspective and personal experience of the author, who in his own right is an absolute stud of the old school and new, which was woven into the fabric of this fascinating history. I’ll be referencing this book from time to time for its inside baseball and peerless recommendations.I love my 1911’s and I love this book.

A Nice Hardback Book
Sometimes you just want a nice hardback book in your hands. Not a tablet or laptop. You want to feel the color pages as you read about the most iconic hand gun ever made in the history of mankind. The photos are impressive and the information is accurate to a point. There is some nonsense in the book about movies and conjecture about where the 1911 is going. All in all, it is a nice coffee table book for the gun enthusiast in your lifeMy history with the 1911 goes back to my days in the Army as a 60 gunner when the 1911 was my back up weapon. Now the 1911 is my personal protection weapon and a collector's piece. This book along with other books helps with that collection.

Great 1911 History
This is an excellent book on the 1911. It is not a technical manual but a history. The author has a long history with the shooting sports. A lot of good old fashioned stories that are enjoyable. The 1911 is the focus but the author covers a wide range of pistols. Not only the 45CAP but 38 super, 9 mm, etc. The book is an enjoyable read and I recommend it.

Excellent Book !
Excellent book by Mr Patrick Sweeney. Many interesting historical details.Bad packaging. Book loose inside a huge box. No wrapping at all. Some pages of the book will remain with creases from have been folded the wrong way for too long.

Absolutely Fascinating
Mr Sweeney has done a masterful job! Yes this book is about the 1911;however, this book is a must read for every serious gun enthusiast. The history surrounding the era and development of the 1911 is fascinating as told by Mr Sweeney as is its use in the pre and post world wars. Once I picked it up and started to read, I could not put it down. Coffee table size book with fascinating and wonderful color photos. Well worth the price! Well done , Mr Sweeney!

Great updated content
Updated edition. This book gave me an excuse to re-read it again. The only reason for 4 stars is the quality of the paper - it appears somewhat thin and the pages were "wavy" not straight.
