A square a day is part of my health. I have tried all brands. This is my go to because it has the least heavy metals and has the best taste. As the prices have skyrocketed in the land of stupid tariffs, Amazon has become the best price point of getting the healthiest dark chocolate source.

On Dec 11 2012 I purchased Ghirardelli intense dark midnight Reverie chocolate on Amazon.com for $16.60 per six pack which is aprox.$2.77 per bar. The current price reflects a price of $5.00 plus per bar. An equal quality product(possibly better as it has no milk fat nor soy lecithin added) is lindt, usually selling for $2.50 per bar. At any grocery store. Some times two for $5.00. The reason for buying Ghirardelli chocolate was it's smoother feel as it melted. The sugar content etc. was comparable to other dark chocolate. I decide at a comparable price I would try Ghirardelli. I have no issues with the Ghirardelli product. I, however don't understand the marked difference in the price? This will cause me to not consider amazon as a source for this and calls into question pricing policy's? I am editing this review to note that the price,as of 12/22/12 has been modified back to $16.60 for a 6 pack. I appreciate this development, not with standing that I have no desire to become the monitor of pricing for either Amazon or the supplier of this product!I still remain anxious about real intent, related to pricing?

The taste of Ghirardelli is legendary. Just recently a study found chocolate bars to be chock full of heavy metals. However, Ghirardelli 72% and 86% were among the few that had the least amount. Why should any have such percentages of heavy metals I don't know. It seems just about everything we eat is loaded with toxins. Maybe has been for a long, long time. I don't know. I do know Ghirardelli makes the best tasting and I do know that I love their bars, so I will continue to buy and enjoy them, albeit in moderation. Moderation in all things, said the philosopher. I agree. Aside from the chocolate itself, one thing bugs me. It seems to me that Ghirardelli bars used to be sold by Amazon. After the Consumer Reports article, I could not find them for sale on Amazon. But some stuff not sold by Amazon can nevertheless be purchased thru Amazon. This was the case with Ghirardelli after the CR report. Last time I ordered, I got them from some mystery supplier, and the 6 bars were held together by a factory installed chocolate box. This time they were just bundled in brown paper and stuffed in a box. Should I be worried? Could they be counterfeit rife with toxic metals? On neither occasion did they come from Amazon. So what assurance do I have they they are even Ghirardelli? They could be some other brand in Ghirardelli wrappers. Perhaps Amazon should explain why Ghirardelli is no longer directly available from Amazon. Or was it ever? It seems to me that once upon a time I could order and as with other brands, get delivery within a few dats. It took 3 weeks this time. Alas, my addiction to Chocolate is so strong that I am willing to risk the risk and wait the wait. But others may not wish to do so.
