SAM XT Extremity Tourniquet, Orange 1/EA

The pull till it clicks, then use the windlass, makes this tourniquet easy to use and quick to apply in stressful situations. There are other well made tourniquets out there as well, but that “click” function is an upgrade that makes sense, especially for those who are not regularly in situations where this may be required, or where refresher training is not as regular as it should be.

The SAM tourniquet seems like it is probably the easiest for a pay person to use. The system helps ensure that people tighten the velcro adequately before twisting the windlass. Be aware that that SAM sells two versions of this tourniquet, and this is the one with a plastic windlass (as opposed to metal). This should not effect the reliability or performance of the tourniquet as almost every other brand also has their windlass made of plastic. Having used many different brands and styles of tourniquets, this one is my favorite, better than even the NAR CAT.

As is with all SAM medical products, the SAM XT Extremity Tourniquet is no exception. I teach Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) and Basic Life Support. Besides the CAT-7 tourniquet, the SAM XT is another tourniquet that I have my students train with, I also highly recommend that people consider carrying the SAM XT as an alternative to the CAT-7 because it is easier to use for those who are not first responders. I highly recommend this device.

First saw this TQ during an 8-hour block of instruction from SAM medical on their new trauma products. I replaced the TQ in my flight bag with a SAM because of the design. Have not had to apply it yet in the real world, but I am confident in it. Lots of experience with other common TCCC devices. Only down sides, it is more expensive and it does not compact down as far due to its design, so it cannot really be carried in a pocket.

This is the second generation of the SAM XT. Hope to never need it. It's a good quality and if I ever need it I like how the strap locks in place even quicker than the CAT.

Haven't used it and I hope I don't have to. But love the quality.

I saw these tourniquet at a local tactical store and really liked them. But not so much the price. Found them cheaper here and decided to grab two. Everything from price and shipping to packaging and the product itself , was excellent. I was a medic in the army from 07-13 and mainly used CAT tq's . I have loved them so much I never saw any reason to switch. But these guys sold me. Basically a CAT combined with a SOFt wide TQ. Very easy self aid application. Haven't used one real world and hope I don't have to , but I have no doubts these will become my new favorite tourniquet.
