A great device to turn the smartphone with the best camera into a camera with a smartphone
I use my Nokia 1020 as it was designed, as a 40 megapixel with a smart phone attached. When conducting audits I find myself taking a lot of pictures and this battery pack not only makes it easier to hold the phone and use it as a standard camera. It is much more ergonomically friendly than trying to hold the camera and take the picture, usually a two handed operation. This camera grip feature a button allowing you to use the phone like a standard camera and even permits taking pictures with one hand, normally one has to hold the phone in one hand while pushing the "button" with the other. The camera grip is only half of the function of this device, it also features a long lasting back up battery. This would also allow the user to take an insane amount of pictures and shoot a lot of video when both the phone and grip are fully charged. It also serves as a back up battery and will add 40% to 50% to the battery. Even when not plugged in constantly the battery hold a full charge for quite a while. This fits the Nokia 1020 perfectly and clips on securely, so it cannot be in a case when using the camera grip. However, since it is roughly the same dimensions I can use it to charge my Nokia 735, which it does very well. But the camera grip functionality only works with the 1020. In a pinch I imagine it could charge any phone with a micro USB post located in the center provided it was the approximate dimensions of the 1020.When the grip is attached to the phone and you do not want it to continually charge the phone (and drain the grip's battery) hold the battery indicator light until the lights blink twice, this is turn off the grip. You will need to do this if you want to keep the grip on and turn off the phone, otherwise it will stay on as when it is charging via a wall outlet. And speaking of grip, although made of hard plastic the device has a rubber strip on the battery "bump" affording the user a secure hold, a feature even many digital cameras lack. The Nokia 1020 is an old phone but since I generally use mine as a camera first this grip truly makes it look and function like a camera.PROS:Extends battery life of phoneWill charge phone even if not using the cameraTurns phone into a great cameraThreaded to accommodate tripod/unipodCONS:Attaches so securely to phone taking it off can be a challenge

Unique way to utilize excellent camera phone...
I don't use the Lumia 1020 as a phone anymore, but it does have just about the best camera optics of any cell phone and that is why I bought this camera grip. The price is great and it fits well. I don't plan to remove it from the case so I don't expect any troubles like people have had with the mini-USB getting damaged. I have charged it and everything seems to work well.UPDATE: I just took this with me on a trip to Italy. It performed perfectly. I am not sure about the battery though. It seems to drain very fast, whether it is used or not. BUT, for using the camera phone, it is perfect. Very easy to take advantage of the excellent camera optics of the Nokia 1020.

hard to take off
This is not a necessary item. The extra battery is useful, but it adds a lot of bulk, though camera is still pocketable in shorts. It definitely improves the balance of the phone, and allows easier grip while taking photos. However, the main reason for four stars is that it's is only about 1000 mAh battery, so definitely not worth it for the price. The other irritation is removing the cover requires prying, I am afraid do it too much otherwise something might snap (probably won't since it's a Nokia but still). I was hoping for something I could easily attach when I needed power and remove just as easily. Will probably get a powerbank instead.

Let's face it. The Nokia Lumia 1020 is actually a camera with a built in phone so why not act like it.
This thing works flawlessly. It snaps on perfectly but that could be a downside. It fits so snugly I'm afraid after a while the paint may wear off the phone. Hopefully I am just being paranoid and only time will tell. It makes the Nokia 1020 feel like a camera and operate much like one. As far as having it on all the time I would not want to do that but it does have an internal 1,020 MAH battery which is about half what the Lumia has. That means you will get about 50% more battery life with this attached. And it is not that uncomfortable to talk with it on although I do prefer to only use it on occasions when you would normally take a camera. With this everyone will think you have a point and shoot camera and will probably be thinking "why doesn't he just use his phone to take pictures?" Then if you take a call they might say "geeee, you see that dear? That man is talking on his camera."

Battery Upgrade Useful, but Not Essential
The Lumia 1020 has a pretty good battery life so long as you're not a heavy game player, so this is far from essential. I bought it because I thought it would be helpful with all the photos I take; in practice, the bulk it adds makes the phone a little unwieldy and awkward to carry, so I rarely actually bring it out with me unless I know I'm in a heavy-duty situation where an extended battery is worth the extra weight. It's a shame that it doesn't include the Qi wireless charger, also.To the phone, this seems to appear as an external power source rather than a battery - so when you attach it, the phone switches into power charging mode, drawing from the extra battery, rather than simply switching to use the other battery. That seems like an inefficient way to make the most of the battery, but perhaps I'm not fully understanding how the phone recognizes it.In summary, it's a nice-to-have, but the phone is more than adequate as it stands. Go ahead and buy it, but the Lumia 1020 is a perfect phone on its own without the extra baggage.

... as I now can hold and use the phone like a regular camera
It definitely has made picture taking much easier as I now can hold and use the phone like a regular camera. I am already blown away by the quality of the pictures taken with the Nokia 1020, but now that I can use a tripod with it my horizons have been expanded. I am not sure that it is actually acting as an extended battery and lengthening the time of use, but I have a back up battery for that purpose. The extra bulk and weight takes it out of the pocket phone category, unless you are wearing a jacket. I like that fact that it has a hand strap. Don't know why all phones don't have.

Must Have for Lumia 1020 Owner
A Must have for any Lumia 1020 owner. This should really be sold as an extra battery for your phone that doubles as a camera grip. Basically doubles your battery life and comes in very handy on those long road trips

Unfortunately all of these are now "old stock" and unfortunately the capacity of rechargeable batteries declines even when they're sitting on a shelf somewhere waiting to be bought. When my grip first arrived it still held about a half to two-thirds charge, but after a couple months of occasional use only boosts the phone by about one-third now.

Very handy if you take lots of pictures with your Nokia!
So far, I've had no issues. This has been working flawlessly since it arrived.
