The Routledge Atlas of Jewish History (Routledge Historical Atlases)

I was really excited to get this book, as my other book, Routledge Historical Atlas of Religion in America, had great clear digital maps. Unfortunately, this Kindle version, which is all maps with text, has low resolution maps that are pixelated. This makes the book not very useful. I ended up purchasing the paperback version so I could read the maps.

Martin Gilbert's death is a great loss to historians of the Jewish people. Now that Jews are yet again under world wide attack...most distressingly by racist-fascist student groups on American college campuses...his contribution to the recording of Jewish history is more important than ever. For the Jewish kids who believe as even a presidential candidate that only one side in the conflict is worthy of humanitarian care and dignity, let them read the maps here with its record of persecution, humiliation and degradation of Jewish communities in the Muslim Middle East pre-dating modern Zionism.

The maps need some time to get used to reading but they are first class. The book is all black and white some color lines might have helped understanding.

Excellent maps and information on Jewish settlements throughout the years of the diasporas. I refer to boom often while preparing classes.

Information is good but print quality only so-so. Some maps are almost impossible to read.

This Atlas is easy to read yet very informative of the entire history concerning the Jewish people and the world history that comes into contact with God's chosen people.

Great gift for my grandchildren. they must be kept informed....

Comprehensive resource from which to glean and extrapolate a lot of information about Jews and the Jewish experience world-wide from 2000 BCE to 2009.

Although brilliant in paper edition the kindle edition is illegible due to style of writing

Martin’s work impeccable as always. This horrific topic covered as only this unique historan could have. Years could be spent ( and have been and will continue for all time) meditating upon the meaning held within the pages of maps and his accompanying brief narratives in this book .

The atlas may be considered a visual companion to any serious book on Jewish history, Jewish languages or Judaism. Although the maps are set in grayscale, I find them greatly informative, especially the textual panels appearing around most maps. Highly recommended to any ardent lover of Jewish studies.

I had the first edition, and wanted the most current available. It satisfied my requirements. Dr. Martin Gilbert is one of the world's finest historians.

C'est trop dommage. Le contenu de ces cartes et légendes sont malheureusement très difficilement à illisible à lire.Il n'y a pas assez de Pixels et il est impossible de les agrandir. Mon évaluation négative ne porte que la dessus.Si quelqu'un sait comment recevoir une bonne édition je l'achèterai aussitôt.
