The ant trap is a hit and a must have!!
The ant trap arrived on time and the packaging was intact. I waited a couple of weeks to test this product prior to my review. I am so relieved that I finally found this ant trap which really works. Following are some tips for those who have not had a successful experience:Hang the ant trap from an "S" hook by placing it on your tree branch and fill it with water. Hang the Hummingbird feeder with the sugar water from the ant trap and ensure that the feeder and its perches do not touch the tree trunk, branch and leaves. The feeder should be balanced so it does not leak. Some feeders leak due to not attaching the feeder's parts securely. The other reason is if your feeder bottle is plastic, you should not wash it in the washing machine due to the excess heat. The exception is if your feeder bottle is made of glass. If you live in a windy area, check your “S” hook, feeder and ant trap regularly to ensure that it is balanced and your ant trap has plenty of water in it. The “S” hook would help stabilize your ant trap and feeder and prevent it from falling especially when it gets windy. It is preferable to hang the ant trap and feeder is a shaded area. The water in the ant trap does not evaporate quickly and I have not been filling it with water on a daily basis. In addition, the sugar water in your feeder will last longer since it is not in direct sunlight.Bottom line, this product works if you ensure that your ant trap and feeder does not touch the tree trunk, branch and leaves and your Hummingbird feeder parts are attached correctly.

Scrubbing ants is not my favorite way to spend the day
Keeps the ants out of our hummingbird feeder, I and the birds are very thankful! Scrubbing ants is not my favorite way to spend the day....Last year we got infested with ants in the back yard. I’m sure our hummingbirds were as frustrated as we were trying to clean them all out twice a week. You have to run hot water through the feeder all the ants are spilling out of it, then trying to shake them all out….it was gross and I never want to do it again. I can’t imagine how grossed out the hummingbirds were with the ants everywhere in there. This trap is made of solid hard plastic that has held up this season well. It hangs easily from a shepherd’s hook with our basic hummingbird feeder below. It has also never fallen off the hook, even in high winds. So far, we have had no ants get in the feeder! The humming birds seem happy and content, and I’m enjoying not having that nauseating time at the kitchen sink. When I first installed, I did put vegetable oil in the top, but have since stopped for the sake of being a slacker, and we have still not had any problems. This simple plastic piece saved our sanity and time. It is absolutely worth the price and a great deal. I would recommend this to anyone who keeps a humming bird feeder as a necessity. As in don’t hang a feeder without one or your looking for trouble.

Since hummingbirds don't eat ants...
I really should have bought this sooner. Thankfully, this perfect product arrived in record time and I was able to deploy it as my latest line of defense against this summer's ant incursion almost as soon as I realized I needed it.Anyone who feeds hummingbirds knows that if you have a feeder, you will eventually and inevitably have ants in it. This season, I learned that the feeder drew ants not only to itself, but also created an ant amusement park out of anything within reach of the exterior wall next to which the feeder hangs. After finding factions of little black ants swarming the adjacent toaster, pantry, stove, and anything they could get their little feet on, I realize that much larger a pestilence than just the little sugar-water scuba divers I usually clean out of the feeder each week could have been avoided had I clicked the checkout button on this item sooner. This ant moat hangs simply in minutes with any type of hanging feeder, regardless of mounting type. It's a deeper model than most others I have seen and has kind of a ringed design that reduces the total surface area of the water that is exposed to air. Compared to models that are shallower and proportionally wider, it should reduce the rate of evaporation and frequency of refills required to keep your hummingbird feeder ant-free.This design doesn't tip easily, sparing the maintainer the unexpected shower of water and floating ant carcasses experienced while monkeying with other styles of moats. As an added bonus, I have noticed other birds stealing sips of water out of the moat as they pass through.
