Absolute must read if your dog needs ACL surgery!
The Essential Dog Owner's Manual for CCL Injury: What to Do Before, During & After Surgery has been the biggest help to me during the recovery of my dogs double TPLO surgery. I wished I had purchased the book BEFORE the surgery so I could have gotten myself prepared for surgery (because this book tells you everything you need to know to get prepared and what to do after the surgery) After my dogs surgery I felt completely alone with my girl who had both legs done the same time. It is hard to go through this but with limited information from my vet I felt alone. I went and did some searching around for help and found this book! I believe this should be sold at every vet office out there that does these types of surgery to prepare people as to what to expect! it's a great book and it just walks you through everything you will more than likely encounter during the before during and after surgery. If you dog has to have this surgery BUY THE BOOK! you won't regret it

A must have for dog owners facing knee surgery on their fur baby!! Vets should carry this!
The Essential Dog Owner's Manual for CCL Injury: What to Do Before, During & After Surgery was a sanity saver! I ordered prior to my dog having TPLO surgery. It helped me understand what was going to happen, how I needed to prepare my home, items I should consider having on hand, and the must haves. I'm so glad I had this book since my orthopedic surgeon didn't give my 1/10th of this information! Knowing how to handle swelling, and things to look for... THis book is packed full of so much information that is easy to understand and implement. I highly encourage you to get this asap if your dog has torn his CCL (ACL). It has made going through the surgery and rehab time so much easier!!! Thank you Carla for writing this for all of us dog lovers!!

Trust me, anxious dog mom, feeling much better going into this!
This book helped me so much with my dogs TPLO surgery. At first I thought maybe a book about this is over the top- buT NO. There is so much info online that is overwhelming and unproductive and often misleading, so having an actual hard copy book with all my info and notes in one place. It’s full of solid vet-backed info but doesn't overload the reader, the writer also talks to you like she’s in this with you, making you feel less alone going thru this scary experience. It’s empowering to be educated and know how to communicate intelligently with the vets and techs. We all have to be our own advocates in our own health care and our pets advocates! Really appreciate the author putting this together. It’s clearly a labor of love and that she wrote this book is really a generous act of service which is why I felt compelled to write (my v first) review. So grateful for this resource.

Best book for CCL injury
I love this book! Our dog has a CCL injury and my friend recommenced this book and Facebook support group. Carla the author is amazing. Anyone that has a pet with this injury needs to purchase this book. It talks about how to decide which surgery would be best and the steps to take before and after to prepare for your pets surgery. Her dog Vinny had the same surgery. I loved seeing the photos and different stages he went thru during this process. Carla has text me multiple times to comfort me and just being there for questions and concerns.

Excellent for beginners. Can be adapted to other types of surgeries! Experienced-Proceed w/ caution!
This book is excellent for a pet owner who has never had a dog go through any type of surgery before. It will set you up for success in many ways a beginner might not even think of. As well as covering a great deal of basics. If you are experienced, this book might not be for you. When it arrived in the mail, I excitedly opened it up & started flipping through the pages when I realized I had done almost everything that was being suggested. It is absolutely my fault that I did not stop & look at the contents of this book before I purchased it.I saw the word, “Essential”, stopped there & ordered it. .. . (and I normally read up & investigate everything before making a purchase). Oops. I was exhausted from everything going on with our pup.I was thinking it would have more of a scientific/medical influence than it did.Again, the author does do an excellent job sharing her personal experience & personal research.Summary: If you are new to this type of experience, this book is an excellent choice. If you have been around the block & this isn’t your first rodeo with an animal having surgery, then you might want to skip it.

A support group on your nightstand.
I’m in week 4 of my dog’s 8 week rehab from TPLO surgery. I’m so glad I found this book the day before the surgery. I only wish I had had it a month earlier. Filled with tips, for suggestions and advice, it’s almost like having my own support group on my nightstand. I just can’t margined how the author managed to go through this twice! For me though the first set of xrays is coming up and we’re halfway there! Thank you for this book.

A great lesson on CCL pre & Pos op
The manual was very informative for owners or caregivers experiencing first time CCL Surgery pre & post op, for their dogs. This manual takes the guess work out of what’s going to happen or what’s happening. If you’ve done all your homework, an you know it all, the manual may not be for you. It was a eye opener for me and a big help just going to one place and learning what you need to know & have on hand post op. The manual provided situations I was not expecting or not mentioned in pre op ( by surgeon or staff) that increased my level of awareness an prepared me for this major experience. The manual was easy reading an finished in a day.

So much good information- no matter where you are in your dogs CCL tear journey
My dog tore his CCL and I spent HOURS researching, calling friends, talking to vets I knew from every placed we’ve lived to get their opinions on management or surgery, and if surgery, which kind. I wish I would have just had this book. I ordered this book as it was recommended to me in a Facebook group- about one week before surgery. I read it all in about two days. It’s a very easy read but with a TON of useful information. I love that it’s split into easy to reference chapters. Definitely worth every penny.

Very Helpful & Reassuring Aid!
Very simple and easy to read. Scrambling around on sites can often leave you feeling stress from not being able to understand everything being said. Just finished reading it, actually read it all in one sitting—first time ever doing this; only took about an hour and a half, quite proud of myself! It was written from the author’s experience with her handsome boy, Vinny (around 70 lbs) who had two TPLO procedures. My girl, Suzy (8 lbs) is 5 weeks post-op from her Lateral Suture procedure. Much different scenario. The book does mention this procedure several times and provides a brief explanation, but it’s minimal information. This is not something I’m upset over, as it was not the author’s personal experience. I wasn’t expecting to be able to relate to it too much as I was familiar with the premise, and my experience is much less common. The recovery processes are somewhat similar, yet do have distinct differences. This is a perfect book for those who want to learn more about the CCL itself, and those with bigger dogs considering non-surgical therapy or the TPLO procedure itself.I still learned more, and I’m very satisfied with my purchase. I will hold on to this book forever in case I ever know anyone with a doggo going through something similar. If you’re among us, please check the book out, and absolutely join the Facebook group “TPLO, CBLO, MMP, TTA, Lateral Suture: CCL Surgery & Recovery”. If you don’t have a Facebook account, make one! I had to reactivate mine for it, and no regrets whatsoever. It’s nice to be connected to those who understand what you’re going through, that way none of us ever feel completely alone on this long road to recovery.Thank you Carla!

You will feel so confident about your dog’s TPLO surgery after reading this book! I certainly am!
My adorable 6 year old lab, Jedda will be having TPLO surgery on May 6th. I have spent hours researching surgeries, conservative care, etc and I still cried because I didn’t know what was best. I joined many Facebook groups and was even more confused as to what would be best for Jedda. Then, I found Dr. Carla Spinelli and I messaged her. We’ve had many discussions that I appreciate so much. I ordered her amazing book The Essential Dog Owner’s Manual for CCL Injury. My questions have all been answered! I feel confident that Jedda will have a future of running and playing again.I 100% recommend Dr. Spinelli’s book! It is full of so much information.Thank you Carla!
