KangolTropic 507 Hat - Deep Springs/XXL Ivy Caps & Flat Caps

This used to be a smooth, sleek, structured hat. Over the last three years, I bought three of the Kangol Tropic 507 in black.The first version was amazing. It was structured, had clean lines and fabric was consistent. It looked like something Apple would produce.The second version was sub-par construction, but still acceptable. No longer structured. a bit flimsy but still okay.The third version that I just received is no longer the same hat. The direction of the fabric is inconsistent. The seams are jagged. It's not longer structured; it's flimsy and can't hold on it's own. The band is now a cheap elastic. Where the visor meets the main body, the fabric is warped with ripples.Reading reviews from other throughout the internet, it appears this is now the norm with Kangol. It's simply not the same quality nor worth $47. I've seen structured baseball hats at at least half the price have better build quality. If I could quantify the build quality of this hat relative to the original version, it's about 20-30% the quality.It's clear Kangol has cut corners along the way by accepting corner cutting during manufacturing and no QA control. I'd be happy to purchase another one of the original Tropic 507. However, at this build quality, I'd rather give another company my business.

I love my Kangols. I bought the "charcoal" and previously bought "beige". I was nervous of the color due to the picture (which looks like it was taken with a warm light) but I can confirm it is actually gray. I have attached pictures of it on my charcoal colored coat and on my gray gym floor. I would prefer both colors (charcoal and beige) to be darker, personally. Also worth noting, even though they're both XL, the charcoal feels slightly bigger... A small variation in size isn't uncommon in hats though (probably most clothes).

I want to note ahead of time, I wear a 7 3/4 size hat in New Era hats and in most fitted hats. I tried the XXL in the 504 since it says 7 3/4 at the beginning of its range. It was too big, not so much in the band area, but in the actual hat part. I could feel parts of it bulging away from my head. I ordered the XL in this 507 and it fits perfect, even though it says it fits up to 7 5/8. So I do believe these run a little big. Keep that in mind if ordering a borderline size like I was.These hats have multiple pluses. They are nice enough to wear with a polo and dress pants. They are casual enough to wear while just hanging around outside.They stop my sunburn head. If shaving your head has one big disadvantage it's the possibility of sunburn. Anyone who shaves their head should own at least one of these hats. I grew up wearing baseball caps nearly all the time, but my wife doesn't like the baseball cap look. She does however love these Kangol hats on me.These hats are very cool (temperature) and are extremely lightweight.The price, especially on all the base colors, is as cheap as most baseball caps. Throw one of these on with a t-shirt and workout pants, then put it back on when you go out to eat with your wife. They really don't clash with any clothing choices, except maybe a suit, but I wouldn't know on that one.You'll know if these style of hats are for you as soon as you put it on. If you're a head-shaver, it will feel just like the first time you shaved your head and you knew that was going to be your hairstyle for the future. I'm going to order several more in different colors.Lastly, it doesn't say waterproof or rain resistant, but it does a nice job of keeping its shape after being rained on.A quick comparison to the 504 ventair model, the Tropic feels more structured, similar to the difference in a high crown baseball cap (507) and a low crown baseball cap (504). The 504 may be a bit cooler and more ventilated, but not by much. I don't know how much of that is just the placebo effect of the venting mesh of the 504. I like the look of the 507 a little more, but this is very much subjective. The 504 feels a lot flatter. Both have shown to be durable, but the 507 handled rain better. I prefer the 507, but will keep the 504 handy for trips to the beach or anywhere overly hot.

We live in Florida, which means convertible cars and hot weather. No danger of it blowing off in the wind and the visor works better than the car’s visor for blocking out sun. It is without question the most comfortable hat I own and I have a lot of hats! This is also an excellent golf hat or good for just walking around in 90° heat. Once the temperature drops below 60°, though, I switch to a warmer hat.I like photography and the visor does not get in the way of the camera. I have also used GoPro’s hat clip to attach it to the back of the cap and turned the cap backwards. Makes you look like a geek but, well, GoPro. :)I will probably get a couple more of these in other colors.

I have this cap in six colors (each ordered at a different time over few years). After many, many exchanges to get an acceptable fit, here's what I found: The sizing for this Kangol style runs very large, so one size smaller than you would normally order would SEEM TO BE the way to go. HOWEVER ... doing that didn't work for one of my caps, where I actually needed my normal size. With hundreds of Amazon reviews all saying the same thing about the overly large fit, and Amazon not having corrected the problem with Kangol, I suggest ordering what would be your normalize size AND one size down AT THE SAME TIME. This will save you a lot of you time in packing and returning caps to get the best possible fit until Amazon fixes the problem with Kangol. Simply return the size that doesn't fit. Done.

Great Scully, Just runs a bit large. None-the-less is my favorite hat now.

The reason that it fits a little large could be that it's sitting on a shaved head. No problem though. It looks great and if I have only one problem with it, it's that I can't decide which way to wear it. Most of my friends like it backwards with the logo facing forward like Samuel L Jackson. Some of my friends like it the way Donny Wahlberg wears it on Bluebloods. If only the rest of life's problems were so easy.

As a wearer of a wool 507, every time it's warmer (which isn't all that often in the UK as we know, but those warm days do sometimes come around!) I think to myself 'I must get a summer hat, as this wool one is far too warm in hot weather' so I've taken the plunge as the summer is apparently here..... The fit of the cap is pretty much the same as the wool version, maybe a little larger but not enough to say I'd buy a smaller size. It is made from a mesh like material, I'm not quite sure what, but it's 'breatheable' and quite light making the cap more comfortable and less like wearing a woolly hat in a sauna. My one niggle would be I prefer the seamless design of my wool 507 better, but that's a minor thing.

This cap is lightweight and comfortable, aided by a degree of stretch. A real top quality item that is great value for money!

Thought large should fit, but no. is too large. could not wear it. And because I have already thrown away the package and label, not sure will be acceptable for return and exchange. Have said that the cap looks fabulous.
