I like “regular brown lentils” from the grocery store, but the Palouse’s lentils are way better for a comparable price. They hold their shape well even with prolonged cooking, and I find I go easier on the herbs and spices of the cooking water/broth because the lentils themselves have a great natural earthy (almost mushroomy) flavor that I like to let shine. I eat a lot of lentils, and now I’m spoiled by Palouse so that I’m disappointed when I “have to” get the generic grocery store stuff. They’re that good.When I went to reorder lentils this time, Amazon recommended Palouse’s chickpea/lentil combo. I also eat a ton of chickpeas so I went for it. I am certainly not disappointed. Palouse chickpeas cook up way nicer than grocery store dried chickpeas. They take on seasoning from cooking water/broth much better too, though again, Palouse chickpeas also have a nicer natural flavor than the ones I’m used to. They don’t have any mealy aftertaste and they even smell better, somehow. I haven’t timed cooking them, but they seem to cook up much faster than grocery store beans as well, and they get very soft and creamy inside without splitting or smushing or losing their “shells” (skins?), which has sometimes been a challenge for me cooking chickpeas in the past. They stay creamy-soft even when they’re eaten cold, like in a salad. I don’t think I can go back to other brands after eating these; Palouse chickpeas are far better than any I’ve bought before, even better than their lentils, and I’m crazy about those.I don’t know if it’s the varieties Palouse grows, their farming methods, or just that their stock is much fresher than others, but the end result is that Palouse products just taste way better than anyone else’s. I highly recommend them.

I bought this mix on a whim, not expecting much. I used to think beans tasted more or less the same, didn't matter where you got them. I was so wrong, these beans are something else! The lentils are amazing! They keep their shape very well, no bursting like with the grocery store brands. They have a rich texture that reminds me of ground beef. Perfect to help a beginner vegetarian like myself make the transition easier. Cooking these with a can of coconut milk is highly recommended. The garbanzo beans are just as great. They take roughly a third less time to become soft than the store brand I was used to. The garbanzo beans have a much bigger inherent flavor than the lentils(obvious to chefs), so you are gonna need to season it well. I cook these with a vegetable bullion cube + cinnamon + chipotle powder. Delicious. For the sprouters out there, the lentils sprouted after about 18hrs, the garbanzo beans took about 30hrs. They grow vigorously once they have sprouted, so keep a close eye on them. As for negatives, I can think of one. The lentils require at least 2 good washes so you can get all the hidden dirt out. Seriously, wash them. I soak all my beans to lower the cooking time and phytic acid level (everyone should) and I was surprised by the amount of dirt that had accumulated on the bottom. I will be buying these again. I have had family members compliment me on my new-found cooking skills. They don't know that that the only thing that has changed are the beans themselves.

I usually rinse before cooking and these are much cleaner and free of debris than the small bags I get in the grocery store, making the whole process a little easier. The lentils are a little smaller but very tasty and cook up pretty fast. I frequently eat them for breakfast. They arrived really quickly - a couple of days, direct from the farm with free shipping..

I have purchased from this family business quite a few times - good clean products and taste, wish there were some discount offers, esp for bundles, to help with the cost though.

Good quality lentils and garbanzo beans. Once washed and soaked, these look lentils and garbanzos look nicer than the typical grocery store legumes. However, I've found there was a lot of fine dirt or dust on the lentils, so be sure to rinse them until the water is clear. Otherwise, a delicious, high-quality product.
