The Essential Guide to Planets and Moons (Star Wars)

Great book for EU lovers!
This book is a nice overview of the planets from the Star Wars Expanded Universe (now "Legends"). It's fairly old though so be warned it doesn't have the planets prequels, let alone the new Disney stuff.

A good compendium for most of the EU planets.
I bought this for a friend, it is pretty solid. Why I mention EU, is that it contains a good amount of information and the planet's inhabitants, (like Kashyyyk has the Wookies and the Mon Calamari planet has both inhabitants mentioned.) The biggest problem, is that, did not realize it was published in 98' or 99' so only the prequel planet mentioned was Naboo, so if you want a more up-to-date version of Star Wars planets, look elsewhere. Other than that, if the publisher or author would re-publish this book with all of the movies and again more EU stuff, it would be great, but still is a solid compendium for planets in the Star Wars saga.

Loads of Information but the wrong kind.
This is probably the worst of the whole essential guide series, specifically because it does not so much focus on the Planets themselves but specifically history involving main characters and the alien species which dwell on these worlds, both of which can be read about in Guide to Chronology and Guide to Alien Species. The art style is a little too cartoony for my tastes as well considering some of the artwork which has been presented in other books of the series this is dissapointing. It does have some interesting info but in my opinion if you want a good in depth look into the Star Wars galaxy and the planets within you are better off skipping this one and buying the newer Star Wars the Essential Atlas.

Worth picking up
Good stuff. Covers the popular main planets as well as some lesser known, and gives you a good reference for where some races come from.

Very good reference.
Covering the 3 original movies this book is one in a series I got for a friend with an autistic son. They are a wealth of information and very interesting.

Five Stars
A very cool book about the planets, and some of their life forms in the Star Wars galaxy.

Four Stars
Can't really rate the writing. It's a book about planets in a sci-fi universe after all.

not, what i expected - no MattePaintings !!
i love the designs and matt-paintings of lucas-arts, which were done to visualize the planets and locations of the StarWars-movies. i hoped to find them here as a collection. but none of that. there is just some unneccessary informations of the plant, a black/white pic of some inhabitants, a very gross black/white sketch of the landscape - and not more.i was VERY DISSAPPOINTED to say the least.
