Great reference book
An excellent companion to the TV series - planning is now underway to travel on some of theses lines ourselves during our next U.K. Holiday

Bradshaws handbook facsimile a good buy or no?
I purchased this version of the book after reading reviews of the facsimile against the reprinted version which said the facsimile was the better reproduction wise. I am pleased with the content of the book and the presentation of the book however the text is too small for my poor old eyes. As the age group who would be most interested in reading this book would probably be the older variety the size of the text could be a problem. Overall though, I am very pleased with the purchase.

1864 tour of old england
As a sherlockian this book is indispensable even though it's of a time that's earlier than the 1880's. It did not have a map of London even though it did list it in the table of contents. The written descriptions of places, areas and "things" are adequate. I would recommend getting a map or maps of 1860 to 1900 England and London.

Great guide to an era as well as to a place or three
Such fun to read and should also be accompanied by watching the 6 series of Michael Portillo using the Bradshaw to travel around Britain today comparing Britain of yesteryear with Britain of today! Wonderful

Wonderful. I would love to do more Great British ...
I know why Michael Portillo uses it as his guide. Wonderful. I would love to do more Great British Railway Journeys with it as a companion!

Lovely copy
Received a very good condition used copy from a third party seller on Amazon. Some minor wear on the corner, but nothing serious, and it simply adds to the character of the book. Very pleased. This is a wonderful facsimile of the original -which I have been unable to find for an affordable price (as to be expected) - so this is very much appreciated in this form. Print is tiny, but reprinted well enough to read, there's a few missing words here and there, but otherwise the copy is still completely readable and is lovely to look at. Very happy with my purchase.

Very cool little book!
No surprise, it was Michael Portillo who 'infected me' with the Bradshaw bug. His many fascinating quotations from his original Bradshaw made me want a copy of my own. This cheap and cheerful facsimile fits the bill. For this money a no brainer really. The quality is superb for the price. It has many b/w prints of iconic buildings and landmarks, and of course lots of interesting descriptions of the various destinations.I use the book to browse "places" I find interesting. It looks nice on the coffee table as well, something different than Helmut Newton for a chance. ;-)I don't travel with the book (I'm very much a car/motorbike person). If you want to travel, you may want to look at the softcover too. The hardcover is small enough I guess, but still...I have no problem reading the print, and I'm no teenager either. ;-) It's smallish - as you'd expect - but readable, especially since it's a browsing book to look up stuff, no novel you'd read from cover to cover.Ergo: recommended for anyone who's interested in the GB, not just railway buffs!

It's a Bradshaw's!!
What else is there to say, It's a Bradshaw's Handbook from 1863. It's history and Michael Portillo has sold this book well on his program :) I like just opening a page and seeing what a city was like in 1863, even flicking through railway timetables from that era :)
