Akademie X: Lessons in Art + Life

If you've never been to art school, I highly recommend this book. It opened up a lot of great creative insights, philosophies, and practical tips & advice for aspiring artists.The printing of the book is absolutely beautiful. The binding makes it portable, as there is a little string that shuts it closed. Not only that, but the color, design, and size of the book is spot-on.I also loved the diversity of opinions, thoughts, and ideas from all of the "tutors" of the book.For me, I am a photographer always looking to gain creative insight from any artistic minds. A wonderfully creative look at the creative process. Each artist's journey is so different and the reference books are amazing. I recommend this book to artists, and educators of art and anyone in the art industry. Fabulous!

Interesting combination of artists and their comments. I haven't gotten through this yet, though. THere is a ton of information in it. Interesting concept book that I believe I can learn a great deal from once I really dig into it.

If you are looking for chicken soup for the artist's soul, then this is the book for you. It is not what I expected at all. It's just a collection of artists' philosophies on life with photos of their works rather than anything instructional (unlike the discription implies).

Very durable as it has survived the semester with only minor scuffs on the covers from taking it in and out of my backpack. It is also far more engaging and personable than more traditional textbooks. I find the information and advice very comforting and helpful.

It’s a little too cute. Some artist take the opportunity seriously and offer some really great insights. Others are purposely esoteric. Save your Money and download the PDFs of certain pages from friends

This book is fun to read and insightful. The size of it is nice, and I'm glad it's a softcover. They did a good job achieving a textbook style.

For some of the contributors this book appears to have provided them with a platform to pontificate and you will struggle to identify 'the lessons' ....... having said that there some gems to reward

Die einzelnen „Lektionen“ der jeweiligen Künstler sind sehr unterschiedlich. Manchmal eine Art Lebensbericht, manchmal relativ theoretisch, aber immer inspirierend. Besonders interessant sind die Empfehlungen der verschiedenen Künstler, was weiterführende Literatur oder Filme anbelangt. Es ist ganz sicher kein „Wie werde ich ein Künstler“-Leitfaden, sondern vielmehr ein Buch, das durchgearbeitet werden will, auf vielfältige Weise zur (Selbst-)Reflexion einlädt und so die eigene künstlerische Arbeit sicherlich auf die eine oder andere Weise nach vorn bringen kann.

I couldn't get through it all. A lot of talk by artists who talk too much. Some interesting insights, a lot of ponce.
