Gilmore Girls meets Sabrina the Teenage Witch
This book was not what I was expecting, and I mean that in the best possible way. I was hesitant when I first read the synopsis because it sounded like it shared tropes with a lot of other murder-mystery books. New girl in town-check. Cop automatically thinks the new person in town committed the murder-check. Girl starts to investigate to clear her name-check. What I wasn't expecting was for the synopsis to only generally cover the overall plot of the book. The tropes end almost as quickly as they begin. They're there, but they don't encompass the majority of the story like I've seen done so many times before. Instead, the book turns in a new direction fairly quickly and gives us a much more satisfying reading experience. I also loved the heroine in this book, she was so sassy and funny. Honestly, the whole book is like an awesome mash-up of Gilmore Girls and Sabrina the Teenage Witch (the Melissa Joan Hart version, not the creepy new Netflix version). The banter in this book is top-shelf and constantly had me laughing out loud. I highly recommend reading this book.

So many tedious conversations
What I liked is the h, she's a 100 year old witch, who talks like a teenager, but acts as an adult. So she was fun and so likeable. The 2 Hs were so different, Bill was well developed and was an adult, Jimmy was very under developed. The 'why choose' scenes were at best coy, like teenagers making out. But what I didn't like was the writing style. So much telling, the story is written as descriptive conversations. It made the reading laborious and it felt very teenage 'what they want to eat, what they order to eat, who took their order, what they did eat'. When the h needed appliances we were told 'what the h wanted to order, how she ordered, who she talked to place the order, when it would be delivered, and this went on and on page after page. It made for very tedious reading.

I haven't had this much fun in a long time
I laughed out loud three times reading the sample of this book and that's when I knew I had to buy it.I've now read all four books in the series and am hanging out for the next one ;)Sure, the protagonist can be a bit immature at times, but can't we all? Or at least, we'd like to be! And maybe what I like is that she's unapologetically herself. She tries to do the right things, and genuinely cares, but sometimes she's just a flawed human being/witch and messes up, like we all do.I also love that this is primarily a story, with the steamy stuff sprinkled appropriately and tantalisingly throughout, not just a bunch of sex with a story holding it together. Hell, she doesn't even do the deed for ages, and I didn't even care, because the interplay between her and her boyfriends is a heap of fun.The characters are real, the pop culture references awesome, and the entire series one hell of a fun romp!

Fun opener
This story seems to focus on Dot and her friend moving to a new town and acclimating themselves within a new Coven. Sometimes the flow of the story dragged a little bit but overall I found it to be enjoyable. The characters were easy to picture and Dot was cheeky, flirty, but serious and intimidating when necessary. This is only the first book so I may be off base in my assessment but the main plot line of this book revolves around one specific person targeting witches within Dotās Coven but by the end of this book, that was taken care of. That said, this may be a series where each book has its own set of problems and trials that are taken care of by the end of the book, eliminating the cliffhangers while also eliminating the dramatic overall series story arc.Nothing too steamy in this book, a couple of scenes with some heavy fooling around but that was it. The RH hasnāt really materialized yet but it is definitely a mĆ©nage story at this point. I figured she will add to her harem as the series progresses.Overall this was a fun series opener and I plan on continuing the series.

Awesome quirky and real characters!
I love these books. I have gone back and re read them at least three times now. And I'm not gonna stop anytime soon. I love the jokes the small town and the world building. Very good writer. Nearly everything was believable and before I knew it, it was time to return to the real world. Sigh. These books do release fairly quickly so it's not a long wait and with dot well you never know what's around the corner.

Love this series!!
If you like supernatural, RH, and humor... you should give this series a shot! If you like all that and don't mind insta-love, descriptive sexy times (with m/m later in the series), and completely inappropriate behavior... this will quickly become your new favorite series! I'm so in love with Dot (fmc) and I can't tell you how many times I've laughed to tears reading these books! Ms. Faye does a fantastic job weaving a story that plays like a movie in your mind!

Different kind of witch
The start of this book was a little odd, but it quickly settled. I liked the frequent descent into the absurd, but there were a few rereads in this one. Frequently the dialogue lost me as to who said what and a couple of times l just plain didn't understand things. However, it was an interesting tale. I'm afraid that I won't be continuing with the series.

Absolutely brilliant. Iāve loved every moment
I recently discovered Jacquelyn Faye with her coven series. What phenomenal books! I devoured all six books in 2 days and didnāt stop laughing. I really needed those laughs at that moment and Jacquelynās books took me away and made me laugh and stop taking life so seriously. Thank you Jacquelyn for writing something so different and so fantastic. I just absolutely loved every book and have downloaded everything else she has written. Every book has been just as awesome to read, just as much fun, so funny and has taken me away from my stress and lifeās problems. I highly recommend reading each and every one. Just awesome

Tickles me
I adore this book and have very high hopes for the rest of the series. It's hard to make me laugh out loud in public but this book got me chuckling into my fist a few times today. The play of character dynamics is beautiful, the use of strange magic and magicifying up normal things (like dust bunnies) and instilling magic into normal inanimate things (like houses) dredged up some fond family memories.

Not your average RH romance.
Amazing! Iāve just discovered Jacquelyn Faye and I am loving her books. There are a lot of āreverse haremā books out there that are so formulaic and forced. I was so pleased that these books are nothing of the sort. These books have genuinely intriguing storylines with some steamy and sweet romance along the way. My husband has been giving me funny looks with all the laughing I have been doing while reading.Definitely worth a read!
