Do you want to live?
The question is, “Do you want to live?” If so, then you need a good clean brain. That’s what this book is all about in a scientific, practical, state-of-the-art way. It seems mostly addressed to women perhaps because they have twice the incidence of Alzheimers then men (Of course women outlive men by about five years, and dementia is age-related). I started reading this book at the gym, seated on a semi-recumbent bike, pedaling briskly when a weird thing happened. A friend (call him Jim) pedaling next to me got up and walked away, leaving his cell phone. Let me repeat that – leaving his all-important cell phone! I searched the gym for Jim, and when finding him, he didn’t recognize his own iPhone device. He’s a couple clicks shy of 80. After a few moments, he did recognize it, and I told him the irony of reading about Alzheimers at the same time that... He said, “Okay, so what’s the cure?” “Haven’t got that far, Jim,” I replied, “but it’s a systems approach which seems logical for such a massively complex system as the human brain-body. Another fellow passed by at that moment (pardon my rambling on and on, but that’s expected with my senior status, isn’t it?). Anyhow, this guy said he’s a neighbor and he saw me outside my house. I said, “Hey, I’ll wave at you next time. What kind of car do you have?” He stood there a long while and finally said, “A silver one.” Next strange incident: I got back to the semi-recumbent bike, and who should be sitting next to me but a nurse practitioner friend. He explained about Alzheimers in that he sees many patients with the affliction, and there are many drugs for it, but none of them actually work. They’re palliative at best. There is no cure-all drug. So I told him about this book offering a systems approach, that deals with health at a fundamental level. He nodded his head with the grin of a skeptic. Okey-doke, think I’ll quit the rambling for now.

Learn significant prevention and restoration systems to combat dementia epidemic
Most of us know a loved one who suffers from dementia. Dr Lonsdorf helps make sense of it all in The Healthy Brain. Having lost my own beloved and once brilliant dad to Alzheimer's eight years ago, the actions both women and men can take right now for a more healthy mind in our lifetime is scientific and offers hope for all of us. Author Dr Nancy explains that unlike mammograms and other conditions this is not about checking for early stages of a scary condition. It's about checking for vulnerabilities and eliminating them so the condition never happens. As a journalist with my finger on the pulse for women in their 40's along with my own concern about inheriting Alzheimer's, I was drawn to this completely natural approach to experiencing healthier as a whole, and feeling more vital, clear, sharp and … more happy!

Should Be Read by Every Woman...
This book is so very important that it is essential for every woman over 40 to read. Because of so many invasive elements that the body is bombarded with today, along with hormone changes and tech overload, cognitive decline is rising at an alarming rate, and unfortunately, women are the most vulnerable. What Nancy Lonsdorf has done with The Healthy Brain Solution, is given us a roadmap to prevention and reversal of cognitive decline. And she has done this in a user-friendly and healthy pathway that we can access to help us take control of what could otherwise be a devastating diagnosis. From Cardiovascular problems to Hormone decline, to gut Health...these and so much more are covered in this wonderful and necessary book. I feel It is a gift, and a very essential read.

Am I just forgetful or is it the start of Alzheimers?
This book is a lifesaver if you find yourself forgetting things more easily since turning the big 40, and what you can do about it.Packed with clearly laid out information and action steps, this book is easy to read and has simple to follow action steps to help you identify and get to the bottom of what is normal aging and what is not. There are links to numerous assessments and quizzes to give you real scores used by doctors to measure risk factors and cognitive performance. I also love that Dr. Lonsdorf gives you the lowdown on the medical lab and genetic tests you can take and even prioritizes them for you (some can be quite pricey).I love the practical and down to earth advice in this brilliant book.

I know this book has been well researched by Dr. Lonsdorf, because it is so clear.
I have read other books about Alzheimer's. I was thrilled reading this book because it is so readable. The technical words are included in ways that stress their meanings. Dr Lonsdorf also takes her time to write to be understood not to impress. This book is like a conversation between The author and the reader. as Dr. Lonsdorf moves through her material she has the grace of an artist painting one memorable picture after another. I have told friends to get this book because it is relevant to our needs. Most of all I feel there is hope for all of us to heal and live our lives in grace and humility.

clear, through, informative, complete with suggested recommendations
Great book. The author describes the epidemic of memory loss facing women. Then she continues describing possible causes and possible solutions. A must-read for folks over 40; or for anyone with parents over the age of 40. The title suggests that this book is primarily for women; i would like to encourage everyone; at least every English speaking western individual, read this book. The author entices the reader with powerful antidotes, continues with detailed scientific descriptions of possible causes (and solutions) for memory loss; and then continues to summarize all the scientific details. This book is educational, inspirational, thorough as well as being an easy read.

Needs a UK edition
Although this book contains interesting and useful information, overall it is disappointing - and I write as a long-term practitioner of TM who has read Dr Nancy's other books. It is very repetitive and could have done with a good editor. But most of all, it is written primarily for a US audience with limited 'asides' for UK readers when really a completely different edition is required. I believe the tests referred to will not be as easy to come by in the UK as the US and more pointers as to how to obtain them would have been invaluable. Having said that, much of the advice can be followed even if you are unable to ascertain your starting point.
