Why yes, I love to brood.
Broody. Strong images. Midsommar in poem form. Not your Maya Angelou inspirational type poetry. These are poems to read when you wake up at 2am from a strange dream. These are the poems you read when you smell firewood in the fall air and get caught in that strange reverie of the world hustling itself in, preparing for winter. These are the poems that you will want to pick up on a long train ride or a short walk. Because our attention span has been neutered to the length of a youtube video, it's necessary to experience the long legato melancholy and clarity that gives birth to that elusive tango deep inside our hearts.

A laureate for our time.
This poet's work consistently expands both inward and outward realms of experience and makes them consciously and irresistibly tangible. He is not afraid of laying his nerve endings on the line.

No wonder he won the Nobel Prize
Tranströmer has a very particular style: his details are very day to day, but he transforms everything in extraordinaire. Recommended for sure.

Seldom has translated poetry struck such a marvelous chord!
The very first line of the very first poem had me: Prelude // Awakening is a parachute jump from the dream. I knew, then, I was in thrall to a Master. What a wonderful introduction. My only complaint is I don't read Swedish, and I would love to read these in the original. When I'm involved in a good book of poetry, I often find myself underling special lines, marking poems I really like, that speak to me in whole or in part. I'm guessing 50% of the poems in this book affected me so, such as these lines from The Gallery:Because the margins will finally riseover their edgesand drown the text.It happens, but seldom, that one of us really sees the other. It is his life, it is his labyrinth.I look forward to finding and reading more of his work.
