Bridge in the Menagerie

Various animals depict Bridge players that you can recognize from your own Bridge set. I guess I would be partial to the Hideous Hog player because I always bid 1 NT so that I get to play game in NT rather than any partner who can't count to 9 tricks. Nice book to show there are many ways to skin a cat or a rabbit in this case unless the rabbit has 4 lucky feet and therefore will be my partner. The book is nice departure from dry Bridge books. I wish I had thought the concept myself. HH and RR

Hilarious and perfect for bridge groupies. I've always loved Victor Mollo's column in the Bridge Bulletin and was disappointed it was no longer there. I have given this wonderful book to 4 other folks that share my love for bridge.

I love this book! It's not really about learning how to play, but the short stories are entertaining with all the distinct characters! A classic that every bridge player should give a try

I was so pleased to see this had been reprinted. This book brings fun and erudition together and despite having been written way back when the hands and play sequences still work today for the most part. The characterisations of the players is hilarious. A classic for any bridge player's collection

待ちに待った本が再刊されました。 Menagerie シリーズと呼ばれる Victor Mollo の作品の第一巻で、 古今のブリッジの本のトップ１０に入ると言われています。 このシリーズはブリッジを楽しむ本です。 Griffins というブリッジクラブでの出来事が描かれていて、 常連たちは外見や性格が似ている動物のニックネームを付けられて、 皆あなたのまわりの誰かを連想させます。 ブリッジをしているときの性格や人柄がユーモラスに誇張して描かれて、 実際に１日ブリッジするよりもっと楽しめます。 ビディングはＡＣＯＬが基本ですが、ＡＣＯＬを知らなくても、ブリッジの上手下手も関係なく楽しめます。 ただし、Griffins クラブのブリッジはほとんどがラバーなので、 ラバーブリッジをご存じでない方は、予備知識を得てから読まれるとよいです。 一昔前のブリティッシュ英語で慣れない表現や単語が少なくないですが、分からない部分を飛ばして読んでも、ともかく面白いです。

Viene richiesta una buona comprensione del bridge. Assaporare questa comicità prevede almeno due cose: 1. Essere stati a un circolo di Bridge 2. Saper giocare a Bridge Se rispettate queste due premesse, preparatevi ad avere delle buone risate.

Il libro verte principalmente sulle storie raccontate, che possono o meno piacere o interessare. Le storie occupano quasi tutto lo spazio del libro, lasciando quindi poco spazio alle mani, alcune delle quali possono servire come curiosità bridgistica, ma non sono certo orientate a fornire al lettore esperienze istruttive sul gioco della carta.
