Good exercise for mind
I had this puzzles book way back in 2003 in my final year of engineering. I used it to prepare for placement quizzes. Shakuntala Devi is a well known Maths genius in India, and this book by her is great for building analytical thinking. The puzzles are very well thought out and are fun to solve. I recently bought this book as a gift to my wife who was looking for a good way to pass time. I hope she loves it as well!

Great for those with strong math skills
Very fun! If I had to change anything, I would like for the explanations on the back to be more detailed.

A must read for Puzzle lovers
This book is a must read for those interested in puzzles. Written by Shakuntala Devi the world famous mathematical genius from India. she is a self taught prodigy who never had any formal education. she is also known as the human computer. This is a book of puzzles, and the puzzles in this book are intresting and will involve the reader while solving them. the puzzles are short in length but will force you to exercise your brain, and use your logical skills. the puzzles are of a wide range from the modern ones to those from an ancient text. there are 150 puzzles in this book, and they vary from simple ones to the more difficult ones. they are intresting even for those who are not skilled in maths. alltogether,a good book with which one can pass some time, trying these puzzles.

Something lost in translation?
Some of the puzzles don't make sense for some reason. For example the puzzle #93. [exact wording] "Which is worth more, a bucket full of half a sovereign gold pieces or an identical bucket full of 1 sovereign gold pieces?" The answer states that bucket full of half sovereigns is worth more because the bucket with 1 sovereign pieces is only half full. Confused? Me too! There are others like this, so don't spend too much time trying to figure out the answers before you look in the back of the book.

The Human computer.`
Not much about Ms. Devi, but fun puzzles for all ages. We still don't know how she did it. But I guess, neither did she.

This is the "definitive guide" of puzzles
You would have come across at least one of the questions ( or a variation) from this book, if you have given interviews at major software firms. That's how classic this book is. This book was released first (it seems) in 1979. Trust me, you will not regret the purchase. Many of the puzzles are really nerve wracking. :)

Lieblos und langweilig
Für mich eine echte Enttäuschung. Die Rätsel sind lieblos beschrieben, und zum Teil wird ignoriert, dass eine andere Lösung als die von der Autorin intendierte möglich ist. Klarer Fehlkauf.
