Great Upgrade
We currently have PerTronix electronic ignitions in 4 of our older cars. They have all been very easy to install, and have shown improvements in performance, power, smoother idle, and just the ease of not having to deal with setting the points and dwell. I installed this kit (#1162A) into a Chevy medium duty truck with the I-6 250 engine. I replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor along with installing this electric ignition. Adjusted the timing, and carb a bit and it is running and idling incredibly smooth. Have not had enough mileage driven yet to see if any kind of MPG increase. One modification is required (first time one of the kits has required this out of the ones I have bought). You must notch the distributor cap at the spot where the two wires exit. I used a high speed rotary tool and made the notch quite easily. Put the cap on and made sure it was snug around the rubber grommet but not pinching it. Other than that it is just a drop in and wire up install. Quality product with decent instructions. Best part is you retain the stock distributor and look plus have the ability to drop the points back in the rare case of a failure. Worthy upgrade.

Great Upgrade
Easily installed. Upgraded my 1960's Chevy 230 Inline 6 with it and also added their coil at the same time, and it runs great. No more points! The whole process took me roughly an hour to complete. Hardest task was making the small indent in the distributer cap side for the new wire grommet, but my Dremel tool made quick work of it. Highly recommend the upgrade!

Nice
Installation was easy and quick. This is a well-made product that does the job intended. I no longer have to worry about points or condenser failure.

Not sure if received correct item
Bought this repackaged item from Pertronix. Application charts and Box says it fits my 1958 235 6 cyl. It's obviously too big.I think someone returned wrong part and pertaining just resold (at a sucker couldn't resist price).Anyway my return window closed before I got around to attempting to install.

Pertronix Ignitor
I have installed a Pertronix Ignitor model 1162A in my 1967 Chevy van. It has a 250 cubic inch straight six, which is a replacement salvaged from a similar-aged Chevy in 1978. I installed only the Ignitor module, I did not do anything to the spark plugs, plug wires, rotor, or coil. However, I do have a Bosch "Blue" coil and self-made 8mm silicone copper-core plug wires installed. I installed the Ignitor simply to eliminate the points and condenser, which have gotten increasingly expensive. The van is unrestored, but well maintained, and has been in continuous use since it was new, mainly in the summertime since I have had it. It now gets 3000 miles of use per year, more or less. Installing the module in the distributor was certainly not difficult. The breaker plate with the points is removed by just two screws, without any disassembly of the components on it. The only part of the installation which takes careful attention is the cutting out of the slot in the distributor cap for the wires to the coil. I used a high-speed grinder with a steel burr, and beveled the edges so there were no sharp corners to cut into the grommet. It would be useful if Pertronix would supply a stick-on template as a guide for exactly what size and shape this cut-out should be. What would be even better would be if they would design the breaker plate and wire grommet to come out through the same opening where the OEM primary wire does. However, obviously this would take some re-engineering, and would probably be more expensive to manufacture as well. I used a second cap, cut the slot, and then transferred the plug wires over, one at a time to be sure to put them in the right places. If you needed to put the original breaker plate back on, the slotted cap could still be used, and the point gap and timing would probably be close to right. The engine started right up, in fact so quickly it startled me a bit. The timing was retarded a few degrees from where it was supposed to be, and while correcting this I found that the vacuum advance was not functioning. I fixed that and set the timing to factory spec. I have taken two fifty-mile drives, and two 250-mile drives. The engine runs smoothly, and partial throttle accelleration is much smoother and more effective than before. However, I think that correcting the vacuum advance operation probably has more to do with that than the Pertronix module does. That being said, it is obviously doing it's job switching the coil, I have had no instances of misfiring or backfiring at all. I haven't come to any conclusion about whether fuel mileage has improved, but it is at least as good as it was before. The only thing which remains to be seen now is the reliability and longevity of the unit, which, as you might guess, is important to someone who has used a vehicle for almost forty years.

Easy intall. Excellent performance.
I installed this ignitor in my 1969 Chevrolet C10 4.1. My points burned out on my wedding night, so the get away truck wouldn't run and we broke down leaving the wedding. This ignitor was a quick and easy installation and the truck now cranks faster and runs smooth. Be sure to gap the spark plugs a little further for the stronger, hotter spark! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, easy, and low maintenance alternative to points ignition.

Works great!
Used on a 65 Cheverolet Corvair. It installed easily with no issues. Instructions were clear. Engine runs flawlessly and starts so much better. Did not have to change the coil. Has been on for 3 or more months and is working great. Ditch the points! Couldn't find it cheaper online, and was way cheaper than local parts store.

make your car run like a champ with no more tune ups except for ...
As always, Pertronix does what it is supposed to do....make your car run like a champ with no more tune ups except for plugs and wires occasionally. Quick starting and smooth running with a mild increase in performance and gas millage ( no kidding)
