This isn't really a "diet"
In the traditional sense of the word, this isn't really a "diet". It doesn't feel like one, anyway. The recipes at the end are nice, but the book teaches you to adapt a lot of what you already cook into the Mediterranean way of eating. For example, substituting olive oil or canola oil for butter, choosing whole grains instead of processed carbs, etc. I never thought I could eat "healthy" because I don't like brown rice, broccoli, or whole wheat bread. Now, I've learned that I DO like whole grain couscous, whole grain orzo, fruit smoothies, tons of veggies, and whole grain oat bread. One of the first thing the book teaches you is to start with fruits and veggies, lean meats you do like and build on that. The other thing I've done is almost completely given up beef. I will have it every couple of weeks (nice juicy steak...ummmm) but normally I'll have grilled chicken or salmon or just a meal brimming with veggies and a delicious bean soup. I've lost 5 pounds and a couple of inches in my belly (in 6 weeks) and I have no idea how because I'm always full, eating this way!!

Very helpful book
I purchased this book after my doctor recommended the Mediterranean diet to help me reduce my cholesterol. The book is well organized and easy to read. The information is presented in a straight forward fashion. I've only tried a few of the recipes so far. The ones I have tried were great and there are many more that I can't wait to try. If there is one negative for me, it is that there are no photos with the recipes, but I have only missed them a little.

Pretty Good
Been following this lifestyle for a while now, I feel better, I have lost weight and have adopted a healthy lifestyle all around just by changing my old diet to the a mediterrenean one. Only downside I see is the diet wants you to eat alot of olive oil which can get expensive if you use it for cooking all the time but other then that I love it.

Not for me.
Loads of information, but limited recipes.

Worth a Try
The great thing about this book is the healthy ingredients contained in the recipes. While some of the ingredients are hard to come by in my small town, any cook can find substitutes and create great dishes for themselves or their families. I like the book and can recommend it.

It's adequate
The book has adequate information and adequate recipes but is not as good as some other Mediterranean diet books. I have not followed the diet but have used it and this book to a certain extent to influence my daily eating habits.I love cookbooks and read them often but don't find this to be one I reference very much.

Helpful but not great
Having just been prescribed by Dr.'s to start this "lifestyle", I bought this book to help me with meal plans, grocery lists, etc. It is a good book from that standpoint. The recipes are OK and pretty easy for the most part. You might want to purchase another Mediterranean Diet book in conjunction with this one. I purchased "The Mediterranean Prescription". Having both books provides me with plenty of recipes and ideas for future meals.
