Eye Opener - Wonderful recipes to restore health to the body
How did this get past Big Food & Pharma? OMG So thankful this information is still available.Trust me it will not be long before the movement from sugary and processed food manufactures step up their campaign(along with Big Pharma who profits secondarily from related health issues) to silence medical science that reveals they have one agenda to gain at your expense. The author believes we can change their behavior if we cook healthy food at home and not buy into their products. That big food will start producing foods without added sugars and keep fiber needed for body to properly metabolize. Their business model will not convince them to do so, they will up their advertising game and increase sugar and do all they can to spread misinformation that swallows the truth. Thankfully they have yet to control all messaging, get an keep this book and share with others if you want to be equipped to properly feed your body for a long enjoyable healthy life. Die of old age not complications of metabolic related diseases.

A life changer...no kidding.
Look, if you're locked into the dietary habits of a lifetime and have no interest in modifying them despite verifiable contradictory evidence, then do not bother with this book. I'm 73 y/o and as resistant to change as any other human being. But (and there's always a "but") I do confess that I'm open to re-evaluating my beliefs and if an argument is persuasive enough, well, I'll do some digging. So, before you order this cookbook please investigate the author. Once you're satisfied that he's a reliable resource for scientific/medical data, then adding this to your own library will be a no-brainer. Bonus: if you're gun-shy about utilizing YouTube, the first four chapters are highly educational. (Amazon's return policy should accommodate you nicely. Hint, hint and you're welcome.)

Dr. Lustig actually made quinoa and Brussell sprouts taste GOOD, people. Buy this book.
I am largely incompetent in the kitchen, and tasty junk food is a weakness of mine. This book does it right. Dr. Lustig assumes that you know absolutely nothing about cooking and explains everything very clearly, down to the kitchen supplies, spices, etc that you need to keep in stock, and of course unfamiliar cooking terms. And the recipes really are easy to makeThe most important thing, however, is that this stuff tastes GOOD. I am a skeptic by nature, so I had my doubts. The first thing I made was a quinoa turkey casserole. Just the name of it makes you CRINGE, right? And it even had Brussel sprouts in it! THIS GUY MADE BRUSSEL SPROUTS AND QUINOA TASTE GOOD. Together in one dish, I might add. That is even more impressive. What more can you ask for from a cookbook? Nuff' said.

Great recipes but needs to be in a format that will be a better reference in my kitchen.
I give this only a 4 star because the format of the cookbook is not good for quick and easy access in the kitchen, however the quality of recipes is a five star. The front half of the book reiterates what I have already read in the Fat Chance book... Which, by the way, IS THE BEST EVER explanation you will ever read on why we are a fat scociety and how you can change that for yourself and family. I did not learn this in nursing school. Such a shame that our food has been bastardized and brought us to the illness that financially breaks us before we go. It is the cause of the failure in our healthcare system. As for this cookbook... I wish it was more conducive to utilize in the kitchen. Hoping that Cindy (chef and co-author) will realize that and produce a real cookbook or maybe an app to be a tool in my kitchen.

Somewhat disappointing
I recently bought this and the AHA cookbook. The AHA cookbook focuses on removing as much salt and fat from food as possible while leaving in sugar and store bought pre-packaged "food". The "Fat Chance Cookbook" focuses on removing as much sugar & artificial sweeteners as possible while leaving in the salt and fat. Both books' recipes were not very interesting to me, but I'm hoping between the two I might come up with a few keeper recipes. What I did like about this book was the condensed version of the author's previous book "Fat Chance". It's got the basics and the authors seem reasonable, i.e. not health nazis. The recipes were tested by high school students, so this is a plus for people who are new to cooking, but doesn't offer much for more experienced home cooks. Also, the title is misleading: 100 recipes is a lot of the same recipes done several different "ethnic" ways (You want it Italian? Add oregano. Indian? Add Curry powder. Mexican? Add chili powder and cumin. etc) Recipes using ingredients that take longer than 30 minutes to prepare are supposed to be prepared ahead of time and frozen, or left to cook/soak overnight. I don't really plan that far ahead, so...All in all, there were at least 3 new recipes that I will definitely try (homemade jam that looks easy and doesn't need a complicated canning process, several sandwich ideas) and a different recipe for homemade ketchup that sounds interesting.

Great explanation of the poison "Sugar" with receipes to provide tasty healthy food.
Great book, explains why we need to restrict our consumption of ALL sugars to save or bodies from diabetes and excessive weight, i. e. FATness!!! Explains the problems from excessive intake of simple carbohydrates in the form of sugars. Also, lists the fifty plus names for "sugar" to help you manage your diet. Lustig is a pediatric MD, specializing in treating obese children and in his practice noted the prevalence of sugar in the diets of the kids he was treating. These observation lead him to find that the effect of the fructose half of the common sugar molecule was basically acting as a poison by it's effect on our liver where it is processed and then either stored there or in our body as FAT. You will find this book eminently readable without using a lot of medical language. The recipes, which were created by his coauthor, are all designed to limit sugars and still be nourishing and tasty.

Doctor Lustig is great.
I really like this book, because it has good recipes. Dr. Lustig is a very informative and factual person, tells the truth. After reading and educating myself on proper nutrition I am on my way to reverse my type 2 diabetes thanks to Dr. Lustig.

Consigliato.

A nice introduction to reducing sugar
I really like this book, it's one of my most used now. It doesn't have any pictures which is a bit off putting at first but it does have great, tried and tested recipes. All of the recipes are simple and a number I use in different ways, for example the marinara sauce can be made in bulk and used in pasta dishes, soups, as a sauce for fish or chicken. The ricotta and spinach sauce is another easy recipe that is great for meat free days. The granola is delicious and I'll never buy breakfast cereal from the supermarket again. The book has given me loads of inspiration for making simple, unprocessed food but what I like most about it is that it's realistic for sugar addicts who don't like to go hungry - the meals are satisfying and there are a handful of recipes for desserts which Lustig stresses should be an occasional treat. The book doesn't put too much emphasis on losing weight and focuses more on eating quality, unprocessed food (with the byproduct being weight loss) for health gains. As with most American recipe books, the temperatures and measurements, some food names, haven't been translated for British cooks. The ingredients are easily available in most supermarkets.
