Laposata's Laboratory Medicine Diagnosis of Disease in Clinical Laboratory Third Edition

Great tool for understanding why specific test are done.
I am using this book while in PA school. Its helpful for filling in the gaps of why a specific lab should be ordered vs just knowing to order the lab. It comes with plenty of charts and self-assessment quizzes at the end of each chapter. The more I understand about lab work, the easier it is to learn (and not memorize) the treatment of diseases, so this book also helps with my Clinical Medicine course.

Not worth updating and stumbles to find its audience
I would go middle of the road here. I think it’s just ok. Parts of it are things you really aren’t responsible for as a Lab(er). Not everything in here I agree with also, I like the basic pictures showing things simply. I think it slightly misses the mark of its target. Also the older version of the book is about the same so it’s not worth updating.

Don't expect any laboratory medicine in this laboratory medicine book
This is an updated review, written after my anger has subsided somewhat. First, I would like to mention that I received a full refund on my kindle purchase from Amazon, for which I am entirely grateful.Regarding the book, this is a substantial piece of scientific writing, which doesn’t fit at all my expectations about what a Laboratory Medicine textbook should be. When faced with the urgency of patients’ needs, there are many technical details that could make the difference between a right and a wrong diagnosis; details which might not be immediately apparent from studying individual diseases. Unfortunately, such details are not to be found in this book either. On the other hand, if one is interested in the philosophy of medicine with an emphasis on laboratory testing, I am sure that this book would be a fascinating read. One might even get some ‘Aha!’ moments here and there.Personally, I am of the opinion that the field of Laboratory Medicine is sorely lacking in updated, informed books, and the text here does not contribute towards filling that gap. Therefore, I must declare it of no use to me, hence the one star.
