They Stood Alone!: 25 Men and Women Who Made a Difference Paperback – Illustrated, November 22, 2011

In my quest to teach affirmation and self-fulfilling prophecy to children of all ages, it is my goal to empower those who will, to stand alone in their belief systems. Like Nicolaus Copernicus, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Booker T. Washington, and countless others who are mentioned in this great book, "They Stand Alone: 25 Men and Women Who Made a Difference," they were brave enough to stand their ground and persevere. Our children can be taught to stand for what is just, good, and moral as well.If we believe in something, we should not let it falter, but speak up and stand tall as our voices should resound and be heard. I hope that many will read this book and gain strength from its contents.I applaud the writing and work of Sandra McLeod Humphrey and what she does for children and people in terms of a higher plight and empowerment to "stand alone" if they/we must.

My grandson is an avid reader. . . He is my "I can do it my way" grandchild. So I try to teach him that as long as respect is given to those directing whatever activity is going on - that it is ok to think for yourself and get it done and done right - his own way! My hope is that this book will reaffirm that for me to him. The little bit I read before I wrapped it for Christmas - showed me this book is gonna be great for him!

This book is terrifid. Being a librarian and teacher I which I had had this before I retired. It is a good quick read on multiple people and what made them stand out in our world. A great book with short bios that will grab the imagination and help to urge the reader to find out more.

My go to book as I go to town and find myself standing/waiting in lines etc. Thinking about buying it for my Grandkids as it is a short easy interesting read.

I purchased this book for a starting point in my biography unit for 7-9th graders. It gives great examples of leaders that many of my students had not heard of. The information is solid and to the point. It's a great resource to start the unit.

I bought this for my granddaughter but read it first. It is a great way to introduce children to the heroes we seldom hear about in the news.

I was looking for something a bit different to read on holiday. Bought this for my kindle and it was a geat holiday read as each man/woman has a chapter, meaning that after reading about one person I could go for lunch/swimsunbathe etc. Briefly describes their upbringing and how they became famous. Very interesting and I will be lookng for similar books in the future.
