Robert Frank: Good days quiet

Artist in need of money?
very thin 'book' with with poorly printed so-so images printed on a no-lust paper; kinda like a student-made portfolio project. The pictures would seem to be left-overs the publisher hoped to make a few bucks off. Only an artist with a well established name could get away with having this published.

Memories from Robert
“Good Days Quiet (Memories from Robert)”, published by Steidl in 2019, is precisely what the title says: a collection of Robert Frank’s personal memories of quiet moments in life. It contains photographs from his beloved simple home in Nova Scotia, both fragments of interiors and the house surroundings, open land and sea with no person in sight. These are interspersed with seemingly random photos of good friends and family members. The images are printed from Polaroid negatives and appear raw and distressed. The crudeness of pictures is emphasized by the books’ design and construction: full page prints on matte paper, uncovered spine revealing book sections sewn and glued together, and a simple cardboard slipcase to contain the book. This simple design should not be mistaken for carelessness though. The author is sharing with us deeply personal and nostalgic glimpses of people and places dear to him and the book is a beautiful piece of art, both photos and their presentation.Have your own good quiet moment of appreciating these pages.

confused!
I looked forward to receiving this book, the latest in a very long line of books from the great photographer, Robert Frank. On opening the wrapping, I immediately noticed that the complete spine was missing. Robert has been known for his very personal and quirky books over the last few years; but to publish a book without a spine, leaving the spinal binding very vulnerable? ….I just cannot see the in-joke, which I at first thought it must be....unless Steidl can supply you (and me) with an answer, Amazon.....Please look into this....thank you.

Unexpected disappointment. ONE STAR ; too many I know, but I was not allowed to give ZERO !
I found this book to be such a sad disappointment !“How far the Mighty have fallen” would be a better title for this book and certainly give a fairer indication of the quality of the images it contains.Given his remarkable earlier work, it is difficult to understand how FRANK came to authorise this sad assemblage

Lovely book
Fantastic bookLovely printing by SteidlA very melancholy feeling, going through it remind me of Roberts recent death, as well as what he went through with the loss in his lifetime of both of his kidsHighly recommended
